Your Antenna

No tuner is complete without an antenna.

Which one are you using?

Here is mine, a 1/2 wave dipole, that really works pretty well, and isn't hard to hide if your neighbors are antenna adverse.

FM DX Antenna Co: ,

I have it about 20 feet up on a mast outdoors.

Chuck.......I like this antenna. The photo makes it appear longer than it actually is (69" tip to tip). I just ordered one tonight to use in addition to my FanFare FM-2G that is mounted to the eve of my roof at 28 feet above ground. Looking forward to hearing what the 1/2 Wave Dipole can pull in.

Dan,

I will be very interested in learning what a better antenna does for you. I live in an absolute FM wasteland and haven't even bothered with hooking up a tuner because heavy metal, country music, gospel, and Christian Rock just are not my things.

I can't imagine your location being much better.

Please keep us (me) posted.

I always look for the public radio stations, or the college stations. There is a college station near me that has a huge variety of music. I don't like all of it, but they run the whole spectrum from polkas to power cords, and everything in between,
There are still a few good stations out there, you just have to turn off your auto muting, stop hitting the auto scan buttons, and turn the tuning dial ( if you have one).

A good antenna is one of the keys to finding the weaker stations. Put it up as high as you can.

Glad to see this thread - I thought "what about antennas" when I first saw the tuner section.

What is your experience with antennas mounted in an attic vs. outdoors?

Julian.......Yes, I am in rural north central Florida, which is not a bastion on quality FM signals. The 1/2 wave dipole is out of stock, so I am waiting to order.

I've got a 50 ft. tower with a rotor and fm antenna. There's some really good jazz and blues stations in my area and I have no problem receiving a good signal.

Nothing beats a yagi on a rotator located as high as possible. The Winegard HD-6055P is a good place to start. Too bad the AP-16 is no longer available.
