Wilsons.......... How about in Home Theater ?

Curious if anyone uses Wilson speakers in a Home Theater - Almost all the photos I've seen are a two channel set up - Likewise the reviews are musically focused - The product listings do include a center channel so somebody must be using it - I figure if anyone has real time experience it has to be on this forum

I currently have Revel Salon 2s and split about 50/50 music and movies - Great sounding system but have had it for some years and getting itchy for something new to play with ......... That's what makes the hobby fun

Any thoughts to share ?

Mark.......Member PHC1 (Serge) has the Wilson Alexia's in his home theater with the Wilson Mezzo center channel and the Wilson Watch surrounds. This photo is three years old and was posted right after he completed the installation.

I have a hybrid HT and two channel rig. My front mains are Wilson Audio Sophia 2 each mated with a JL Audio F113 via a Bryston 10B-SUB. The other five speakers are a discontinued brand called Rocket. By sheer luck the Rocket center channel integrates very well with the Wilson mains. I use a third JL Audio F113 for LFE in movies. Movies sound great!

I have a setup similar to Serge. Alexia for L/R and mezzo with CST tweeter for center. I use Two JL 212's for subs and Wilson Alida for surrounds which also have the CST tweeter. For two channel...only the Alexia's are active through KXR twenty. For movies I have a Datasat RS20i to process the signal and send to the system. I really like how this system handles both music and movies.

I'm a little puzzled by the premise of the post. Any good quality, dynamic speaker should do really well in a properly set up home theater. Wilson certainly fits that bill. The only caveat is that most setups will need at least one sub no matter how good the mains are. I suppose there are some exceptions. If I were using my Sasha's in a theater, I'd certainly want subs, but don't feel that one is "necessary" for 2-channel.

here is a link to a few older pics. Sorry they are not real good. The MXRs have now been upgraded to Twenties and the VX-5 is now a VXR twenty. The mezzo sits behind the Seymour screen and the Surround 2's are replaced with Alidas

A sub to handle LFE is a necessary part of the 5.1 production protocol. In the ITU/R standard for theater, there are 5 large, full range, directional loudspeakers (originally 20Hz-20kHz) and an LFE (originally called Low Frequency Extra, now Low frequency Effects) channel that is 10dB (originally 20Hz-120Hz, now 3Hz!) of headroom above 5, large, full range, directional loudspeakers. So as originally speced, the LFE channel is for dynamics and output, not unique information, and it is played through the sub.
