See the prologue before the screening of Rogue One at IMAX (filmed with IMAX cameras).

Hello. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. Less than 3 weeks away and my son is taking me to the movie as a Fathers Day gift. Of course dad has to buy the popcorn. LOL. Is anyone else going to see this movie?

Definitely going to see this movie. It is about time someone made a thoughtful telling of this heroic story. Growing up (in the city in the US of the same name) as one could imagine we were taught almost every aspect of this amazing and very heartfelt story. Cast looks like this will hit this out of the park as well...

I saw the trailer for this movie waiting for Rogue One to start at the IMAX theater in the Smithsonian Udvar Hazy Air & Space Museum Annex. I loved the sound of the Stuka siren blaring during a bombing dive as the British soldiers look up pensively from their boat. Quite a story that shows real life exceeds fiction. I hope the movie does justice to the heroism of the English and French who endeavored to fight another day against tyranny.

Told mostly from the point of view of the British public it is said to have done much to overcome the reluctance of the American public to enter WWII. It shows up often on TCM and is a classic. |

I will never question the heroism of the allied soldiers who fought in this battle but this story is one of history's greatest military disasters. Hitler's questionable decision to halt the Axis advance is credited in large part with enabling the allied forces to build up defenses and begin what Churchill described as the "miraculous" evacuation of over 330,000 troops to England, more than 85% of the allied forces that faced certain annihilation. Most of those left in defense protecting the withdrawal were captured. About 100,000 French were evacuated but the French army surrendered to Germany before the end of the month. |
I think he was worried about his supply line, Guederian, the german general, was apoplectic.

Take your ear plugs. Am guessing this will hard on your long-term hearing.

Many years ago I read The Miracle of Dunkirk by Walter Lord. Am going to put that at the front of the reading queue to refresh my memory.
Luckily the seeds of eventual victory were laid with the escape and heroism of those involved. |
