Ceramic Headshell

Alex Korf, who has done all sorts of testing & measurements of headshells, has come out with a 2nd iteration of his ceramic headshell for those of us who have a TA with an SME universal mount (which includes the majority of Japanese TAs as well as several from Europe).

Pretty stiff price , but it’s a pretty stiff head shell for a cart to mounted on.
Has anyone used these yet ? I’d like to read what people say about these. They look pretty nice and I’m sure it will be a improvement over other types

179 Euros. Think I'll skip this one for my SL-1210MK5.

Not really that pricy if it really works well. I just spent almost that much for one Orange fuse. And almost twice that amount for a custom made German record brush.

Interesting.

I recently heard an interview of Ken Ball of Campfire Audio by John Darko that he's recently started making IEMs using a ceramic shell. Ken was saying that one of the issues with working with ceramics was they were prone to failure modes e.g. getting voids or bubbles in the ceramic, and obtaining consistently high manufacturing yields is quite challenging.

Yes..... ceramics are difficult to manufacture, though some of the newer varieties can now be machined. The thicker the piece the more likely it is to have voids. Thankfully, my new hip has a thin ceramic 'bearing area' and will last the rest of my life (10yr and good thus far ).

I can see owning one eventually. Few other bits & pieces I want first.

Yeah, my new hip probably has that as well. It's amazing what they can do nowadays...getting my hip replacement transformed the quality of what my life has been the last 3 years.
