The Deuce on HBO

This past Monday HBO broadcast the series Finale of "The Deuce". Of all of the finales we have seen over the years this one was surely right up there with the best. They were able to tie up most of the story lines before ending the show by jumping ahead to NYC 2019. The contrast is visually entertaining especially with the juxtaposition of original characters in the area of current Times Square..

Set during the 1970s and 1980s in New York, the violence of the drug epidemic is worsening. Twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino become fronts for the Mafia while operating out of Times Square, which is also the home of Eileen "Candy" Merrell, a street-level prostitute who exits the dangers of the street by entering the now-legal emerging porn industry as an actress and director. The first season takes place between 1971 and 1972, while the second season jumps five years ahead to 1977 with the season concluding in the summer of 1978. The third season takes place between 1984 and 1985 with about a 5 minutes leap to 2019.

One of the shows creators was David Simon who was also behind IMO the best TV series ever "The Wire". The Deuce may not have lived up to those standards but was very entertaining. A warning for those who are offended by explicit sex scenes. There are a few that are integral to the story line.s

Been a few years since I heard that term. I guess with the movie Ford Vs Ferrari it will be uttered again.
