Foundation upgrade

There are two upgrades available.

1) Free DSD upgrade but unit has to be sent in. I'm wondering if anyone had it done and had any impressions.

2) $1000 (preorder) 4K upgrade. I don't see much info on it. It also offers on-screen-display and even setup screen. Does anyone know if it adds any more extra perks?

It adds some hassle factor and cost, but as a "cup is half full person," it seems like a great approach by Krell to keep their units up to date.

Steve.......Krell Foundation 7.1-channel A/V processor with automatic setup and room EQ seems like a worthy component to consider upgrading if DSD is important to you. The Foundation takes full advantage of the best audio soundtracks available, with decoding of Dolby Digital, Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-ES Discrete, Matrix, and DTS-HD Master Audio. In addition, a full suite of post-processing modes are included, including Dolby Pro Logic IIx and DTS Neo 6. Adding DSD capability to the list seems like a good thing to me.

I am looking for input from those with experience. I am considering either adding an Ayre K-5xeMP two channel preamp with HT bypass (and wait and see what comes out with Dolby ATMOS, etc) or go with the Foundation. I currently have the Integra DHC 80.3 prepro and the Oppo 103. I realize if I go with the Ayre I will need a DAC or go with the 105. I have noted on another Forum that some higher level preamps beat the Foundation but everyone seems real pleased with the Foundation's sonic capability.

Recently sent in for DSD upgrade. Took 2 days aside from shipping. Not original owner so had to pay labor only. Maybe $200. Love the result. Sounds way better than DSD to PCM to HDMI via my Oppo 103. 3 mode options: 1) DSD Stereo has processing. 2) DSD direct with no processing, sounds a little better to me. 3) multichannel with processing. Foundation recognizes signal and gives mode options if stereo or just multichannel for surround. Highly recommended if you listen to much SACD.
