Yes, they are good speakers. As in all speaker designs, electrostatic speakers have also improved a lot since 1987. Dynamics of the newer Magnepan's and Martin Logan speakers are better.

From what I read the newer Quad ESL-2812 and ESL-2912 have improved a lot compared to Quad ESL-63.

Until I can afford newer electrostatics, these Acoustats do work well. Only dis-advantage is they are a difficult load being 83db at 1 watt, 1 meter.

Yes, some of the guys at work also mentioned they are from 2001 ( A Space Odyssey ) due to being all black.

While they all share a similar physical layout (wide, tall & flat), only Martin Logan & Quad are 'stats, while Magnepan's are not. They all 'generally' share a common, somewhat difficult to drive load for an amp.

I realize the Magnepan is not a stat, but they still well known as a good panel speaker.

Never had chance to near the Sanders Sound model 10 or Sound Lab electrostatic speakers.
