C2500 Turn On Problem

Turned my preamp on today and wouldn't come on. The red LED was lit under the power switch, but when touching the on button on preamp or on remote, nada...nothing. I checked to be sure the IEC plug was seated properly which it was.

I then unplugged the IEC from the back of the preamp and plugged it back in. I heard a relay click. Now the preamp turns on as it should. Is this a common problem for this preamp, and more importantly, why did it suddenly do this?

Just a guess, but power wobble might do it. If it keeps happening, then maybe an internal issue. Is this unit hooked up to a good surge suppressor?

stereo 5.......This is not an uncommon occurrence with microprocessor controlled components. A power glitch can temporarily cause conditions such as you experienced. Usually a hard reset, i.e. removing and restoring power to the component usually resets the microprocessor. Unless it becomes a frequent issue, it is nothing to worry about.

My amp and preamp are connected to a Shunyata Hydra 2 which is a passive device and non-current limiting. The IEC connector fits very snugly into the socket so I know it wasn't any kind of wobble.

Another vote, it's happened I think twice on my C2300.

Not sure you can say that. If your power company sends a temporary drop (mine does), say a dip to 90 Volts or if there is a quick off/reset of power from a branch hitting a power line, all your stuff will probably not be able to offset that fast enough or at all............

....one reason why I keep my system unplugged from the power when not listening to it.

I enjoy a C2500 as well.

One time (and only once) I pressed the power button and nothing happened. I unplugged the unit from the AC line, waited about 20 seconds and plugged it in, and no problems since.

Back when I had a MAC6700 I must have had some sort of "power blip" that corrupted the firmware; the unit would not boot up at all. I had my local dealer install the then latest firmware and all was good.

Since then I've had a 1500va APC unit, to keep my PS Audio P15 powered at all times.

I have the same problem with my C1100, usually two or three times a month, it doesn't turn on. I need to unplug/plug it back to make it work...

I wrote to Mcintosh, but didn't receive any feedback...
