CM line discontinued
I heard a rumor that the B&W CM line has been discontinued and will be replaced with a "700" series which will feature the continuum core midranges. Has anyone else heard this?
Below is a link from a UK dealer with multiple locations showing the CM10 S2 as discontinued. http://www.superfi.co.uk/p-15687-dis...kers-pair.aspx |
This is confirmed by b&w people on other forums and from B&W reps via magnolia / best buy.
Supposedly 33% discounts based on manager discretion at best buy |
Yes, I've heard the same from my dealer. The CM range will be discontinued and a new 700 range will be introduced this autumn.

Do we have any pics of the replacements?
If it indeed has the continuum cone.... that's surprising. A little early in trickledown. |

Oh, man, can't wait. Get your hands on some quick. Great avatar pic, Kal. Cheers, Scott |
Looks like it's pretty much confirmed! The continuum core in the 700 like might make for a very attractive speaker at the top end of the line. The current CM10 is already already very hard to beat at its price point.

That would make the midrange amazing. Hmm
Should I rid of the cm10 now... |

Honestly I found the CM10 to be pretty close to the 804d3 when I listened to them at Magnolia with both Mcintosh and Rotel equipment. The 804d3 had slightly fuller midrange and a slight advantage at the upper end. Cm10 sounded to have fuller bass and had a bigger soundstage (that may have been due to positioning though as the CM10 were further apart than the 804d3). For the money I would pick the CM10 as I think it represents an outstanding value at its price point, the 804d3 sounded great as well but at that price point I found the Focal 1028/1038 be sound significantly better. The 803d3 sounded much better than either, but the price point is also much higher.
If the new 700 series has the continuum woofer, and the price stays below $5000 I think it will end up being a great value and I would strongly consider that over that the Focal 1028 be I am leaning towards not. |
