Cm5 s2

Hello!

I have been running Dynaudio Focus 110's since 2008, and although I like them very much, I have also been thinking about getting more sensitive bookshelf speakers. Unfortunately, my listening space will not accommodate stands so I am limited to bookshelf speakers no taller than about 14.5 inches. I recently listened to the CM5 S2's at a local dealer, and I was very impressed. The bass and treble were just right. The soundstage was spacious, and the sound was just plain smooth and effortless. Note - the CM6 S2's are too tall for my bookshelf. Does anyone here have experience with the CM5 S2's in terms of sound and build quality. Should I be worried that they're made in China? I love classic rock and jazz. Thank you.

I have no issues with the CM being China made. I think you made a good choice

B&W build quality and material quality is probably the best in the industry for this price point. I was very impressed with both the CM and 600 series speakers I have had in the past. The CM5's are a great bookshelf speaker, you will be very happy with them for your application.

"Made in China" gets a bad rap. Sure, a lot of junk is made in China. But with companies like B&W, they merely have a factory in China. It's still the same company, same quality control, same procedures and practices, etc. If a company does things right, a factory in China and a factory in America should output the exact same, identical in every way, quality product. It's just less expensive to do the exact same thing in China vs America (Or England in this case)

Sometimes it's also better for logistics - because heavier components like the chassis may be made in China and it's easier to get it assembled in a factory near where the chassis is made.

Companies like DALI B&W aren't using an OEM - but their own in house factory for R&D and manufacturing. If you ever visit their factories you'll find a lot of the workers are from their original HQ but stationed there.

Thanks for the input!

Hi,

If you can accommodate them (i.e. a bit larger and above all requiring more back firing room), and can manage financially I'd look at the 805 Diamonds. I've done just that myself and although the CM5's are very good all around little speakers, well the 805D's are infectious!

Thanks, EfeTe. I bet the 805ds sound great. Unfortunately, I just don't have the room.

CM5's will do it for you anyway mate! Very solid speakers in most every aspect.
