Now a believer...(not that I wasn't already)
While on my last visit to Dan's (aka jdandy), Dan pulled out a trio of Rollerblock juniors and said "here Pete, why don't you take these home and try them out, see what you think".
Dan had moved into the Stillpoint world some time ago and was no longer using them. I on the other hand, with all the upgrades and changes I've made, still hadn't really tried out the isolation thingy. So I said "why not"?. Well I brought them home and floated my McIntosh MCD1000 on them, loaded a disc, and started listening. I was surprised that I heard a difference. Greater separation of instruments, more air, and an overall better presentation. Over the next few days, I definitely knew that the differences were real. Now of course, I wanted to float my MDA1000 DAC on them. I called Ivan to see if he had any. Not surprisingly, since he picked up the Stillpoint line, he no longer carried them. Long story short, I had two boxes of Stillpoint ultra minis on the way. (I KNEW this was going to happen if I even mentioned the word "isolation" to Ivan....but hey, it wasn't like I went along kicking and screaming :D. I've long heard the very positive testimonials on Stillpoint products. I anxiously awaited their arrival. The Ultra minis have now been in my system 1 week and 1 day, and I'm really impressed. To me, the benefit is similar to with the rollerblocks, but more so. As I listen to the music, I just know t he sound wasn't this good before. I've heard it said that with stillpoints, the music is more "in your face". That seems to be true, but not in a bad way. It's not overly forward or anything like that. It's just like you have a better seat, and the music is more involving. You're deeper into the music. They also bring more of the effect of instruments appearing well outside the boundaries of the speakers, well to the sides of the room. And if that isn't enough, better bass too, so it seems. It really doesn't seem possible that these little "feet" could make much, if any difference. But I'll tell you this: they aren't going anywhere... They are very nice looking too... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bc3836b2_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...044e17a4_b.jpg Once again, my system's performance has been elevated, in a very interesting way. I'll be doing a lot more listening, that's for sure. Thanks for reading, and a shout of thanks out to Dan and Ivan!  |
Pete.......Nothing like free Rollerblock Jr's to get you spend money on Stillpoint Ultra Mini's. How's that old saying go?.....There's no free lunch. . :D
Seriously though, you are absolutely correct. Stillpoints benefit a system's ability to deliver a more focused presentation as well as a deeper and wider sound stage with their ability to reduce the apparent noise floor. Isolation is a big deal that is often overlooked. I'm glad you joined the Stillpoints Club. I have a feeling you aren't finished yet. ;) |

I ended up putting the Rollerblock Juniors under my McIntosh MS750 Music Server. |
