Is it the norm to pay $200+ for a new OOP album.

Ivan.......Way too much for a single album. INXS is an ok rock band, although some of this album tends to remind me of Hughie Lewis and The News. I'd be hard pressed to spend $11.98 that Amazon wants for the CD.

A first press Holland edition Accardo Rossini 6 Sonate can go for at least 800 used. I saw a sealed copy on eBay for 1800. So rare LP can get extremely expensive.

If normal is building a house to put a fancy pair of Italian speakers in, then yes. :D

Anything that is a "Greatest Hits" is going to have crappy mastering, always produced from digital copy tapes. Same with almost any compilation.

If you like INXS, you should be able to find early, low stamper pressings of your favorite albums that will sound much better in a local record store for about $5-10 bucks each.

However, they were at the beginning of the digital age, so even these might have been recorded digitally.

Don't pay more than $10 for a Greatest Hits of anything.

Jeff, you beat me to the punch. Great advice. The 1 greatest hits I have that sounds good on vinyl is best of bread - cost me all of $2. Ivan, the best way to get the best of vinyl is to ensure analog recording and analog mastering with a good pressing. CD mastering pressed to vinyl is typically a waste of time. Now, hi-Rez files generated from analog masters often sound terrific on vinyl with proper mastering. As you are finding out, vinyl collectors can be insane and pay obscene money for albums that sound like shit. Some albums are worth $200, but research it first :)
