I thought I had my modified MGIIIa's dialed in for around 3-4 years, or so I thought! For some reason on This past weekend I moved them 2.5 inches further in the room retaining the same toe in, and leaned them back 2 more degrees then moved my subs forward to match them and what a difference in the whole presentation! This tri-amped rig with stereo subs has never sounded better, the speakers completely disappear and every thing is better focused as well.

Jim

Jim - I believe it! I was in the same boat with my Avalons.....I had them way too far back....I pulled them forward about the same distance as you did and everything opened up, especially the soundstage depth. That's where I heard the biggest difference by a long shot. I know it's difficult for most to have their speakers out at least 1/3 of the way in their room, but if you can it'll make a big difference!

It was a real eyeopener, I agree with you especially with Di-pole Speakers like Magnapans!

Jim

Nice Gear BTW!

Congrats, Jim. Correct speaker location is the single biggest "component upgrade" and, best of all, it's free. :)

Very cool Jim. Those Maggie's really can perform when dialed in. Now I've got the itch to play with mine.

Good point, whereas all speakers can benefit from a little 'tweaking' , di-poles without question tend to shine a little more !

Now go and re-enjoy your music all over !

so what prompted you to move your speakers after so many years?

"leaned them back 2 more degrees"

I was under the impression from Jim Smiths book on voicing a system that Maggies sound better leaning forward?

I always thought completely vertical would be best?? I would guess you need sound anchors to lean them one way or another?
