There were rumors last year about Panasonic killing the SL-1200 in Feb. 2010. After much time searching this morning I could not find any confirmed notes from Panasonic, BUT inventory on all SL-1200 has dropped to "no stock" at most online stores. So this makes me wonder if the rumors are true. Your thoughts?

The way I understand it -- the 1200's are only manufactured during a one month stint per year.

As far as the demise of the 1200's -- latest word I've heard was reading this back in early December 2009:

Analog in 'decline' but Technics not dead - Home Cinema Accessories (http://www.cnet.com.au/analog-in-decline-but-technics-not-dead-339299759.htm)

The best source of who would probably have the skinny would be KABUSA (Kevin A. Barrett ==== KAB).

More info that the discontinuance of the Technics TT's was false (there is some truth that Panasonic will discontinue one of the 1200 models -- no one knows which one that will be):

Well, we can now reveal that all talk of production stopping on Technics turntables has been untrue, as Panasonic have issued us with the following:

"As a major global business, Panasonic keeps all of its operations under constant review. However, there are no current plans to discontinue the Technics brand and the production of Technics turntables."

We prompted the company to answer more questions regarding which particular models would be continued, but the Panasonic spokesperson made it clear that this was all that they were willing to divulge at this point in time.

Why are many sites are showing "clearance and no stock", even Panasonic's own site is showing no stock.

There was a run on 1200's after the hoopla & since they only dedicate a one month production run -- they are out. P&S.

I have technic SL1200 MKV with the original box I will sell, make me a offer by private message. I am looking to move up the TT food chain and just want to find it a home where someone will get some use out it. I have a few phono cartridges I will throw in one. I bought it new about 1 1/2 years ago.

Local music store in town here can't order them fast enough it seems. I went back a 2nd time when they recv'd a bunch, guy said they were all gone already....? I asked if this had something to do with the rumors of the discontinuation, he looked at me like I was from outer space

To me, it doesn't make sense that online sellers like MF is saying "clearance" instead of "out of stock" or "backorder" if they are getting more. There used to be four to five different models sold on MF, now there are two and both are listed as "clearence".

I've heard a faint rumor that Technics is coming out with a MkVI -- maybe that's why sellers are stating it that way in their ads -- to me, that's all they are -- words. Time will tell.

Well, as reported on NPR's web site yesterday (they picked up on the story):

I had one for a few years, now it's in Serge's sons hands. It is a nice deck that sounds good, has very good torque getting up to speed almost instantly and maintaining it nearly perfectly. With a few tweeks such as adding a external power supply and SME tone arm you have a audiophile bargain, quite a capable sounding rig for not too much money.

I bought a SL1210 MK5G for $849 shipped, new. It goes for about $1000 on eBay right now. I don't plan to open mine because I really don't need it. I want one before there all gone. Anyone else bought one?

Great table for $500, not as awesome for $1000... Really needs an SME arm and outboard power supply to really sing.
