I should have a new toy in a few days, decided to trade-in the Marantz SA7S1 on the Esoteric K07. Its sound is a little more romantic (mids & highs) and can be used as a DAC with all the modern inputs. It was very hard to give-up the SA7S1, great player and truely a piece of audio jewelry, but oh boy can't wait !!!

Tom...do you know if the K-07's DAC section is essentially that of their latest D-07X mated to a CD/SACD transport?

Cyril: I closely read the description of the D-07X and donot think it is the same as the dac section of the K07 player. The D-07X uses two dacs per channel and they are different part numbers, the K07 uses one dac per channel, both use 32 bit dacs.

It's an Esoteric -- that should calm the nerves in itself.

I always have had great respect for them as they are excellent players (never heard an underperformer). Only wished they had more black faceplates years ago or else I would have jumped sooner after selling the black Esoteric DV50S I had.

Best & congrats Tom,

Thanks Tim, I always have a chuckle about black face-plates. After spending 33 yrs in electronics and looking at black or gray test equipment all I can think of is silver or (marantz) champagne. In my case that was turly too much of a good thing. Yes, I know, I'm twisted. :roflmao:

Hi Tdelahanty,

How id the K07.

i am in your same shoes but cant compare side by side. I am thinking for replacing my sa7s1 with the k07 or even a k03 if it is superior to the sa7s1.

I love the midbass kick im getting and understand from posts that esoteric lacks the midband weight with bass and voices but gain the extreme highs and lows for sure.

Does your esoteric fair well or sweeten poorer recording for pop/rock?

Thanks, your opinion will be most appreciated.:):)

I just received my new K-07, very happy with it. I have read that Esoteric has a long break-in period, something like 4-500 hours? is there any truth to this? Being new I think it sounds excellent right out of the box.

Congratulations on your new K-07. They do take several hundred hours of break in. Like your player, my K-05 sounded pretty darn good right out of the box. It got better after I played it for a few weeks - sounds great after a month of regular use.

BTW, welcome maxboy00!

Thanks for the replies!

One more follow up question, is it better to run this player balanced instead of with RCA IC's? The K-07 is mated with a Modwright KWI-200, I have never ran anything balanced before, thinking there is no benefit with short runs of less than three feet. The speakers are Selah's Tempesta Towers, cables are from Morrow SP3's everything is finally complete and I'm getting off the merry-go-round for a while now.
