I spoke with Ed at CJ today about re-capping my MF-80 amp, and got some interesting good news. I had assumed it would be with the old Poly and Electro types, as the MF-80, and lots of other vintage gear are not presently listed as elgible for Teflon caps. Ed told me to hold off, as CJ is hoping to make an announcement expanding the SS amps eligible for Teflon within the next 30 to 60 days. However, nothing is final just yet, as they have to confirm supply etc. My particular concern with the MF80 is whether there would be room for the Teflon caps, which are pretty huge. He said that was one of the issues that they need to nail down before going public. But the bottom line is that if you are nursing along some older CJ gear like I have been, this could be pretty exciting. If I have the option, I definitely would upgrade my MF-80, which I like because of the MOSFET output, to Teflon, to open up the sound. Doing so would surely be cheaper than buying a later model.
