My CT-5 pre was looking a bit forlorn sitting unused for the last month or so, so I popped it in to the system tonight and hooked it up to my Rega P5, which I had not heard with it before.

All I can say is combination sounds very, very nice...very low noise, virtually no hash or grain, excellent bass and imaging, superb detail and transient response, a sweet "delicacy" to the quiet passages, and a very enjoyable musical experience.

It's been a very enjoyable evening listening to The Oscar Peterson Trio and Billie Holiday....:music:

with good ancillaries a fully run in CT5 is an extrordinary preamp, the mid has a see through transparency to die for, highs are silky and detailed as of the lace and the lows are nervous and dry
It is a break with regard to the former school CJ, and imo the defect of coloring is wrongly considered as of the sterility
CT5 does not make presents for the bad recordings, the sound will not be systematically delicious.....

Thanks, Philippe.

For some reason the CT-5 has found some special magical synergy with the KT-120 tubes in the LP-70S.

Puma Cat, you need to try some NOS 6550 tungsol in your LP70S
It will take to it another 2,3 levels

Goone,
I just got these Tung-Sol KT-120s and I am quite happy with them, so I don't think I will be spending major coin on NOS Tung-sol 6550s.

CJD now swears by the new KT120s... "the new super tube". Not only power but especially sound. My experience with them in the LP140 monos certainly confirms that evaluation. Not that expensive and very available. Enjoy.
