Did some rearranging today...and put the Clearaudio Concept mono only deck on the Ikea Hemnes table so that I have all three TT decks available for use.

Thought you guys might like to see a pic...

The music server has been moved to the shelf above the Concept for the time being.

This is a temporary setup...I have another Sanus Euro II stand is on the way that matches the double-wide Euro II stand that the Michell and Rega are on. Once I get that in, the music server will move down to the second shelf. You can see the Premier 17LS and EAR834P phono stage on the second shelf of the double-wide rack. Notice the original, NOS, Telefunken tube boxes! ;)

As soon as the Rega P5 arrives this week, it will replace the Planar 3 which will go up for sale.

Nice having all three TTs side by side!

Is that just regular plywood under the two tables?

BTW Stephen,
Which cart did you choose for the P5 ?

For now, the Grace F9E Ruby (retipped by Soundsmith with a new ruby cantilever) will "grace" the P5. After that, the Shelter 501 MKII will move on for a spell.

Still haven't made a decision about a cartridge longer-term.

First things first: first the proper audio rack (the Sanus) and then another phono stage.

Is that just regular plywood under the two tables?

Yes, it's a birch plywood board under each TT. The Rega has an inner tube under the plywood for subsonic seismic isolation.

The one under the Concept is there so the very sharp spiked feet of the Concept (and they are sharp!) do not garf up or gouge the top of the Ikea Hemnes table. I may or may not put an inner tube under the Concept once I get the second Sanus Euro stand for it, as with it's spiked feet, the Concept is quite sensitive to footfalls, notably more so than the Rega (the Rega feet, like everything else on a Rega, work really well for isolation). But I will probably put more Herbie's footers under the Concept's plywood board for isolation similar to that provided by an inner tube.

You can also see a plywood board under the Premier 17 that is resting on Herbie's lampblack balls and silicone cups for isolation. The little board under the EAR834P is a actually a thin, veneered, plywood LP divider from an old Copenhagen Furniture record cabinet. It is also resting on an small, 10" inner tube for isolation.

Stephen.......What is that platform under the Michell Gyro SE?

Yes, as Ivan said, it is a Boos Bros. solid maple cutting board. While those thick maple boards from Mapleshade are gorgeous, they are also expensive. I picked up the one for the Michell at Williams-Sonoma! :p I think it was about $60.

The Michell, with it's sprung suspension resting on the Boos Bros. block is completely immune to footfalls or acoustic feedback! Another reason it's such a great table.

Dan, mine is a Maple R board, Model R03, 20" X 15" X 1.5". I think it was about $60.

Stephen.......Thank you. I was wondered what the measurements are. I looked at their site. My dust cover that is coming is 20" x 17", so I would probably need the 24" x 18" version. I like it. I'd probably choose cherry.

Sounds good, Dan. Something to bear in mind is that maple is regarded as the best wood for isolation from resonances. At least, the best wood outside of ebony. The cherry is sure pretty, though.

Stephen.......Thanks for that information. Perhaps maple would be the best way to go. Right now the Gyro SE is sitting on 1/2" tempered glass, and though I don't hear any issues I believe I can improve things by separating the turntable from the glass shelf.

Stephen, thanks for the info. on the boards and isolation devices. I had good success using those same Herbie's silicone cups and lampblack balls under my last amp. My MC402 is a bit too heavy for them though. If you want to use them for your Concept table let me know. I don't have a use for them anymore.

Hi Dan,
The board sounds like a good idea. I think it would be a good idea to get the Michell off the glass shelf.

Best,
Stephen.

Ha! There's only one phono right now! I have to swap out cables to listen to different decks for the time being.

painful, time to get at least that cj prem 15 :D

I have the EV-1 and that is extremely good and a lot cheaper.

You can use the MC input of the 834P as well as the SUT. two phono's allready

I'd love to get that Pr15 that's on Audiogon, but ideally I need a phono stage that has two inputs.

The input of the EAR has the cables from the SUT going into it already, so only one set of inputs on that one, unfortunately.

There's a C-J EF-1 phono stage locally I could pick up...know anything about it? I think I could get it for less than a grand.

Oh, drats

EF-1. only from the reviews. Martin Colloms luved the EF-1 when it first came out.
I would buy it if it ever came up with 240 volts.

and/or you can add one of these input expanders - Luxman have been making these for 40 years, so they must be pretty good.

Hmm..something to consider. I notice there's a $700 one that uses 6N copper wiring. I wonder how much these gizmos add to the signal path.

Good question, probably more determined by your IC you would hope. The expensive one is closer to a s/h phono like the EF-1.
cheaper one is less likely to burn hole on wallet to takem a risk.

I am getting a Uni-Switch, From Daniel of Uni-Protractor fame. His are a bit more $$, however I know the quality will be excellent, will be transparent and have ground terminals for each input.

This should enable me to consolidate phono stage's as well.

Are you looking to consoldate down to a single phono stage as well?

Excellent, Dan, let me know how it works out for you. I'm confident it will be quite a bit better than glass shelves.
