Default Quick Poll ... Cable Lenght Between Amp/Preamp and Amp and Speakers ....

I may need to reconfigure placement of my equipment and want to make some changes. I'd like to get an idea of what length interconnect everyone is using between your amps and preamp and speaker cable length from amps to speakers. I don't know if I want to go long (6M) on the interconnect (I need 2 pairs XLR) or split the difference with the speaker cables. I think I know the answer but I'd like everyones input.

Thanks!

In Florida, I use as long as 7.0M XLR's & 5.0M speaker cables.

In the Cape, I use as long as 3.0M XLR's & 7.0M speaker cables.

In XLR Interconnects, I believe the length has little or no affect on the signal. I have had both the 2M and 3M Wireworld SE on the speakers and there was no audible difference. I would recommend you doing what is most visually pleasing, convenient for installation and cost effective. My philosophy, at this point in my life, is buy the best quality you can afford because trading up is not always pleasant or economically wise.

2.5M XLR between amp and preamp, 1M XLR and 1M RCA sources, 3M speaker cables, 2M power cords

I used to use 40 foot long XLRs between preamp and poweramp and 10 foot long speaker cables.

Now I have grown weary of these cables so don't have any analogue cables any more. Everything is 75ohm digital.

Joe, noise rejection of balanced cables (XLR) is superior to single ended (RCA) but capacitance does add up even with balanced cables. Here is a brief article UltimateAVmag.com: The Great Audio Cable Debate

In your situation it sounds like neither the ICs or speaker cables are going to be terribly long so I doubt you'll be able to hear the difference either way you go.

By the way, since you are getting the Ayre KX-R and thinking of adding MX-Rs, the combo will be unflappable when it comes to cables since the KX-R has 300 ohm output impedance and the MX-Rs have 2 Mega Ohm input impedance.
