I'd recommend that the whole loom be from the same company and also within the same family (ie Transparent/Opus, Purist/Dominus, Synergistic/Apex, Wireworld/Platinum Eclipse)
I'd also agree that the Kimber Hero and 8TC is a good place to start with an entry level upgrade. I'm pleased as punch with my XLR Hero's and biwired 8TC.
I've been holding out on new cabling until my imminent speaker upgrade is completed which will be the last link in the system I've been planning and working towards. Once all of the components are in place I'll be investing in cabling upgrades. As of now I'm thinking Kimber, Wireworld, Transparent, Purist or Synergistic.
My thinking is that cabling upgrades are poorly timed unless you're done upgrading your electronics and speakers to you desired matchup. For me that's Mcintosh and Revel with cabling TBD.

I believe you can make a very nice DIY speaker cable for less than $200.00. DH labs Q-10 is $14.00ft, Kimber 8TC $18.00ft. (?) I would have to double check the price. If your running to 8ft pairs, your under $200.00, just buy some terminators of your choice. It's alot cheaper than $1200 for an 8ft pair from the company. Im not knocking any company's or anyone's individual choice. Just stating the obvious price difference, in the end, it's your ears and your wallet that will make the choice. I wonder if WireWorld sells "raw" cable by the foot? I just checked AudioQuest and was surprised to see they sell by the foot as well. You should have many choices and brands. I even found pure silver for $24.00 foot. Not sure how that would sound. May be a bit too bright.

Bob, WW does sell their speaker wire by the foot. It can be a PITA to terminate yourself though. I personally haven't terminated the newer speaker wire but the older coaxle design were a bear to do yourself. I always sold preterminated cables unless it was Orbit or below.

Darn that sucks, It hard to swallow the cost of Silver Eclipse speaker wire unless I can get buy with shorter 2m runs. Even that would be expensive. Wish they were as easy as most, just strip the black and red and you done. They must be similar to Kimber 8TC (?) 16 individual strands to terminate into bi-wire pairs. hmmmm . If there is a less expensive way, feel free to share. No more than $400.00 for 20feet of total speaker wire. I can buy DH labs Q-10 for that price. So, that's my limit. I have considerd the Kimber @ $22.00 foot but worried about terminating them.

Terminations are critical for high end cables. Wireworld uses extremely high heat for a very short duration.
