Thank you Jim!
![]() Daryl took it of me yesterday since I was down at Wilson Audio doing a presentation to Wilson's Management. Don't worry, I was sure to tell all of them how great of a group all of you are here on the AA forum!!

While this thread has been around for awhile, I'm newly interested in Wilson, having just heard my first pair in Atlanta, while I was there on business.
I was blown away by the midrange dynamics of the W/P8's I heard. ... that and the overall clairity, made my B&W802's sound almost stuffy by comparison! Overall a very detailed, dynamic and musical sound that has really gotten my attention. I am especially interested in the Sophia 3's and am wondering, since many of the Wilson owners here seem to favor tubes of lower output, if my MC501's would synergize well with the Sophia 3's? Also, I found the lower mids a little lacking with the W/P 8's. Voices, while incredibly clear and coherent, lacked some "chestiness", as if some lower midband was shelved at the woofer crossover point. Was this a dealer presentation problem (poor/average electronics in a revealing room) or is this a characteristic of the speaker? I have not read anything about the 8's or the Sophia's that mention such a problem. Since the 8's are a two-box design, I can see where there could be a crossover transition problem, but the idea that such an issue would have survived eight generations of refinement from such a respected company makes that an unlikely scenario. ![]() Anyway, even based on the limitations of my audition, it was easy to hear something special about the Wilson sound. I have found a dealer in the DC area, and am planning a trip up there to give a listen. Ted.

The Watty Puppy Series had that character of leanness that you are mentioning.
Wilson improved this with the Sasha and the Sophia 3 series. Even the Sophia 2 series had this leanness issue I heard in a few venue. |

Thanks. This leaness would not be a quality I would care to own, so I'm glad to hear that Wilson has addressed this in the Sofia 3. I'm looking forward to hearing them - sounds like an excellent speaker.
