think more stadium than concert hall or auditorium.
Stadium like dynamics? Krell Evo all the way. You need an amp that will be completely stable into very low impedance and deliver tons of current. The Maxx 3 is not that difficult to drive, many have done it with 18w of tube power but.... I feel the 2.9 ohm at 24Hz may tax some amps just a bit but not Krell. The Bryston 28B should do it as well although I am not sure of the low impedance swings with a bridged amplifier like the 28B.

the low impedance issue was my main motive for asking for advice here.
while the bryston is a rather stable design i am worried about it's capability of dealing with the impedance dip.
then again, same accounts for the pass labs x series.

not into krell really and far too costly to be used as headbangers.

unfortunately, i have no chance to audition any of them as they are not available locally. so have to decide and import based on as much input as i can get......

thank you all for the input. highly appreciated.

Hi,
I afriad Bryston's 28B will have way too low input impedance for ARC Ref5.
and that will cause deep bass roll off.
I am looking for a SS amp to match my ARC 's tube preamp too. 28B is one
of my choice but with it's very low input impedance. I deleted it from the list.
which are Pass' 1000.5, XA200.5, Krell EVO600e, Levinson 53.
Also 28B is not very happy into very low impedeance load too. based from
Stereophile measurements.

Regards

having recently settled with the Halcro's, I find them lacking the last bit of power at really high volumes and they start to lose control over the speakers, endiing up in a rather harsh sonic picture.

i am now eyeing a pair of Bryston 28B SST. i would still use the ARC Reference 5 pre and ARC Reference 8 player and Naim HDX as sources.

all input on the Maxx3/Bryston 28B SST combo would be highly appreciated.....

seems that this is the ultimate price one spends on such a revealing speaker.....to keep looking for matching electronics......
I would have to agree with Serge that talking to Peter at Wilson might be your best bet. He has a lot experience with Maxx's.

Would you like me to find his information for you so you could contact him?

Personally if i have the maxx 3, i would go with what serge recommended, the Lamm 1.2s . If you need more power, there is the Lamm m2.2s.
The Bryston, i would not match them with the Wilsons. Its not as refine as the lamms. It definitely has more power and brute force than the lamms but it lacks that finesse.
I have yet to hear a bryston set-up that I really admire. In most cases i find them a bit dry sounding. Perhaps YMMV.
Another option would be a pair of Electrocompaniet monoblocks or even the Ayre MX-R or a pair of ARC Ref 610.

I like your suggestion of the Electrocompaniet. A very under appreciated amp.
