I have been lurking on this site for some time and I have always been curious about Lamm amps. I have heard the MX-R's in my system. Can you compare and contrast the MX-R's with the Lamm's ? If you can, that will be wonderful !

Hi Wakkz,
I'm using a Mc402 and C2300 with my Sashas. It is a very nice and musical combination. The 402 does a good job of providing the current needed for the Sasha's 1.8 Ohm dip in the bass and barely even gets warm after a long and loud listening session. I could be very happy with the McIntosh gear for a long time. But...there is always that question of "what if.." and I find myself wondering how those Lamms would sound! I think you will find a lot of people who pair Wilson with McIntosh both on this forum as well as on the McIntosh forum.

Ayre MX-Rs, a slightly warmer, less neutral, almost tube like sonic signature with Sasha speakers while Lamm is more natural and rich on harmonics and texture. Ayre is a very pleasant sound to my ears, one I can easily live with but with Lamm I often forget all about the gear and get pulled into the music instead. Really can't go wrong with either though.

However, it was well worth every penny. Todate, I haven't really have the urge to replace it with another amp. They are wonderful amps. I can't wait for the day that they will finally be paired with either a Sophia or Sasha. |
