I enjoyed this review, awesome speaker. I listened to the wilson sophia's and watt puppy 8's with a side by side comparison of the B&W 802d's. My opinion was the sophia's just didn't match the base. The watt puppy 8's were the winner but at 2x the price I just couldn't justify it. My dealer has a new pair of wilson sasha's for me to audition along with matching mac gear and the mcd500 i'll be listening too. I believe his quote was about $23,000 for the sasha's not including a center and rear's.
(I would buy a matching set for 5.1 video). QUESTION? I'm curious about the finish, doe's it last over time? I've read but NEVER seen! "the car finish can bubble and peel over time". Has anyone seen this with Wilson speakers over time or is this just someone's personal opinion that favor's wood finish.

I have not owned Wilsons long term but I seriously doubt the automotive paint and the painstaking work they put into their painting process would be less than reliable long term. The finish is simply gorgeous and is better than many factory paint jobs I have seen on cars...

I agree, I've read reviews from magazine's and about the company and how much time is involved building the speaker from raw materials. I figured it was someone that only like's "wood finish". Some people don't like change, the look or painted finish isn't for everyone, same with amps. My close friend doesn't like mac amps just because of the meters. He would never buy them due to looks. He did admit there growing on him..lol He didn't like my B&W's either due to the top of the cabinet. I just tease him about his Klipsch and denon receiver. We all have our own taste's that's why there are so many manufacturers out there. Oddly he likes the Wilson Sasha's but not the Maxx. I try to explain there not just "amps and speakers" rather "works of ART to be appreciated".

Speaking from personal experience, although I have owned the WP6 and then 7 for like 2 years each, the finish (paint job) is nothing short of superb when new! The speaker comes with a protective plastic sort of sticker/warp which needs to be taken off. Once that is done, one can ogle at the finish which seriously, rival many cars' paint job.

After a year or so, I do noticed both the Watt and Puppy start showing some joint lines lines at an angle, as though the paint had somewhat "sink". And running one's fingers, one can certainly feel the uneven surface. By then, both pairs had ben sold/trade off.

Now, on Sunday, came across a pair of used Wilson Maxx 2 and this same phenomenon is seen on the pair. BUT this time, the uneven surface showed a clear "crack line" on both speaker's top right side bass cabinet. It is a crack line and I was told this is a "problem" for Maxx 2 after a period of time. I could not verify this statement but certainly, seeing this pair worries me. Seem to me like there is a "shift" in the glue joint which resulted in this crack line.

I am not making any assumptions nor conclude that this happen on every pair of Wilson Maxx but was told about. As for the WP 6 and 7, though there was no crack line, there is this uneven appearance showing over time.

There's my personal experience. I certainly hope this "manufacturing" problem, if it does exist, would have been taken care by now and will not be in the Maxx 3 or Sahsa cause I am still a believer of their made and sound.

Cheers!

I wonder if they had been exposed to the sunlight. It not only causes cancer on human skin. Based on readings from those who have owned my Magneplanars if you let them get a couple hours of direct sun a day they will almost surely de-laminate in several years. UV rays are nasty. (I just had to use that emoticon!)

Wilson does not believe this is acceptable. A friend of mine had this happen to a pair of Sophias, and Wilson required the dealer to send them back to the factory in Utah, where they were destroyed, and the friend got a new pair of Sophias from Wilson. My friend tried to buy the defective pair back at a discount, but Wilson would not permit it, because they said that they did not want a defective product in circulation. I was told this by the individual to whom it happened, this is not a rumor.

Thats comforting to note. However, for an owner this far away from the US, would the local rep/dealer adopt this attitude? Or did Wilson impart this "take back and replace" condition for owners?

I dont know. But certainly, the out of the box impression sure lasts! And of course, the sound, its nothing short of breath taking!

Anyway, to me, its passe, cause I am now caught up with German made speakers. And they do sound nice!

Cheers!

I think the Italian speakers are probably more musical but not as fast or accurate.
