Default Sonus Faber and Luxman

Just hooked up my new Luxman L-507u and I have never heard my GP Domus come to life as they have done with the Luxman.

I home auditioned the McIntosh MA6600, Pass Labs INT-150 and Electrocompanient ECI 5 Mk II and the 507u blows them so far out of the water.....

The same cd's ive enjoyed for years are revealing new sonics-incredible!!

I'm also using Luxman (old amps though) with my Guarneri Memento.

I think I will sell my MA6600 based on your experience.

bodiezaffa...that's great to hear. I'm seriously looking at the same intergrated you have and the D-05 disc spinner

Glad you are rediscovering your GPs. In some ways GP Domus are the most difficult of Sfs with regard to set up and amplifier. Sounds like you found a great match.

Just curious. How did you settle on those 4 units for an audition? Are there others you considered but didn't make the cut?

Hi Buffalo Bill,

The funny thing is most people who marry SF with McIntosh say it’s the best combination out there. That was enough for me to make the purchase on one (with a 30 day money back return). When I first hooked them up, I was pleasantly surprised at the increased detail and openness. However, I soon lost that initial fondness, finding myself thinking I am still not there….
It was on blind faith that I bought the Luxman even though there were many owners saying I won’t be disappointed. Shelling our $$$ on a amp that I never auditioned was very scary. I work hard to make a good living….it’s not like I’m buying sweatpants from the Gap…
I remember setting it up and just letting the amp sit there, turned on for 2 days before I sat my butt down on my listening chair, hoping that I made the right choice.
Track 2 of Steely Dan – Aja-
You know that feeling when the music bores a whole to your soul and the hair on your arm starts to raise….that’s what happened and I patted myself on the back for listening to my gut.

AV Guide put out a .pdf on buyers guide to integrateds
The Absolute Sound/HiFi+ Guide to Integrated Amplifiers | AVguide

This gave me a roadmap to help narrow down my field. I would have loved to try the Plinius too but no one had one.

I had a $5k limit and even though the Luxman was listed at $7k, I was able to purchase from a dealer I have done business with before. It was a bit higher than the budget, but still a great deal.

I sure hope you will seek a second opinion. My MA7000 is superb on the S. F. Guarneri Mementos. (and I tried several superb integrated amps before I bought the beast)
