Default Going to buy Elipsa's soon, But a Sub??

Thinking of running naked without subs (Music only) with the Sonus Faber Elipsa speakers. (2 Channel, driven by 501's)
Mistake???
I know Ivans opinion on this....

I own a few JL's I could move around but look forward to a smooth fluid sound.

Finishing my beach house soon, and will shopping for a good deal new or used.

Good deal being the motivator. Had a hold its own financial year, which is better then a crap year. (Previous)

Good times..

I recently heard Elipsas' with MC2301's/C500T combo and IMO, a sub would not be the 1st item I bought nor had as a #1 on my upgrade list after their purchase. Even though their range is 35Hz to 30Khz -- they seemed to me, in a very well dampened room to go lower -- therefore, a sub, IMO would not be priority 1.

I could be happy with them out of the box like they are (w/o sub).

I would not use a sub with the Elipsas. Keep things simple imho at least initially

I don't use a sub with mine, they are powered by 1.2KWs.

I initially had a f112 with my Elipsa's and found they sound better without the sub. I moved the Jlf112 to my home theater and then added a second jlf112 to the home theater which my magnepans needed. The Elipsa's are capable of putting out great sound and in my room no sub is needed.

No subs on the Elipsa's, you will be amazed at what they are capable of and they sound great with Mcintosh. Your welcome to swing by if your in Miami, you'll leave impressed.

After just having heard Ivan's Strads, which are in a relatively small room, with 2 JL subs my vote is to include the subs. Would the Stads have sounded good without them, yes; however, with them they sounded GREAT! I've got to believe that the same would hold true for the Elipsa's.

FWIW, since I have no experience with the Elipsa's, I would start with no subs. From what I've read, the Elipsa's seem to be able to cover the musical spectrum quite well on their own. I would spend the sub money, if at all, on digital room correction of some kind.

14 X 20 small??

Just curious to the post -- did you happen to hear the SF's w/o 1 and then w/o the 2d sub?
