I want to run the Strad's full range 2 chanel only, so prefer REL's high level inputs.
I don't believe JL/Gotham has that facility?

I run dual JL subs with my Strad's. Not sure what you mean by high level inputs?

Ivan.......From the Rel Setup Guide:
Connecting High-level connection, using the enclosed cable with the Neutrik Speakon connector, is always the first choice. By connecting to the amplifier’s speaker outputs the sonic signature of the entire amplification chain is folded into the signal for the sub, thereby keeping timing and timbre cues consistent. In other words, the signal sent to the REL is exactly the same signal sent to the speakers, allowing for seamless integration. This connection can be made without affecting the performance of the amplifier because the sub’s amplifier input impedance is 100,000 ohms. This scheme also avoids adding any detrimental effects by not interposing any additional electronics into the amplification chain. • The standard high level hook up procedure is: attach the red wire to the amplifier’s right positive speaker output terminal; attach the yellow wire to the amplifier’s left positive speaker output terminal; attach the black wire to which ever of the amplifier’s ground output terminals is convenient; plug the Speakon connector into the sub’s high level input.

![]() From the above link- My preference is to use a high level connection from the main amplifier’s speaker outputs and not a line level connection from the preamplifier. Why? Let’s take an extreme example and assume that your main amplifier is an old-style tube amp, such as a Conrad-Johnson MV-55. The bass character is warm and full and not very tight or detailed. There would be a large difference in sound character if the sub’s input was taken from the preamp because the sub would receive the tight and focused sound from the preamp instead of the warm and rich sound that the main speakers receive from the tube amp. A good blend between the subwoofers and the main speakers would be very difficult to achieve. But using the amplifier’s outputs to feed the sub’s inputs allows a much more continuous character between the lower end of the main speakers’ frequency range and the upper end of the subs’ frequency range. Since the f112s have only line level inputs, I made a simple voltage divider (to reduce the high level voltage to line level) using two ½ Watt resistors and run the amplifier’s output signal (high level) into the RCA inputs (line level) on the subs. This also enables quick changing of amplifiers without having to readjust the sub’s level control, which is a huge benefit for me. The f112's Master Level control is at about 10:00 to match the efficiency of the main speakers. The image on the left shows this simple circuit built into a cable before the shrink wrap was heated, which created a mechanically stable assembly. My thanks to JL Audio and Barry Ober for their help with this circuit. |

The high level or speaker connections are preferred by many because your sub is seeing the same signal as your speakers. With a low level signal the output goes direct to the subs internal amp while the same signals are sent first to you power amp before passing thru your speaker cable to your speakers. As for myself, I have no position either way.

I saw this about the Euro price today.
Sonus Faber, a longstanding and award winning loudspeaker company based in Italy, will be offering only 30 pairs of their 3.5-way Sonus Faber Fenice (€140,000). The Fenice loudspeakers incorporates three new patents in one product, as one should expect considering the price tag. A tad on the high side.

Every video clip w/audio that I have ever played on this laptop I'm typing from has sounded crappy, until just now while viewing/listening to the Sonus Faber World Premiere Audition In Venice of the Fenice.
I'm just saying............. Anyone knows what demo track (African lyrics) is playing, impressive as well. Thanks for posting the link.
