Default Homage Finish

Check these out:

These are the original Amati Homages, but look at the deterioration on the finish. The fogging of the finish occurs insides the clear coating so you can't buff it off. I heard this is somewhat of a common occuring on the original Homage series, is this true? Anyone with newer (Anniversario, Memento) Homage series having the same problem?

This only happens to Amati Homages that were made early in the run (ie. before certain serial number). I believe it is due to problems with the lacquer or paint.

Sonus Faber corrected the problem in the later run of Amati Homages. All Homages after that (Stradivari, Amati Annerversario, and Guarneri Memento) do not have this problem. No worries!

Ah, cool I wonder if Sonus faber recalled the early production ones and addressed the finishing issues? It would seems like the right thing to do if they want the early adaptors to come back as their repeat customers.

Apparently the reason for this "fogging" was because Sonus Faber had such a high demand on Amati Homages. With high demand, they tried to rush production a little. As a result, the paint did not dry up properly before they applied another layer of coating.

My friend/dealer used to have a pair of the later run Amati Homage. It looked just as beautiful as my Guarneri Memento. No discolouration whatsoever.

My dealer has had a pair of Strads on his floor for the past 3 years or so. Lot's of windows but the are not exactly in direct sunlight. They also look as good as they did 3 years ago.
