Default Power Plant Premier Question

Here were my questions...

1) PPP Surge Protection?

2) Is the PPP always drawing power, or power on demand only.

3) What happens if demand exceeds PPP's power rating?

Thanks.

Uberbrown.......Read this review: http://audioaficionado.org/ps-audio/...er-review.html , and then read post #47 in the same thread for a correction regarding the load of the PPP with no connected equipment.

1. I could not find any specific data with regard to the surge arresting capability of the PPP. There was no joule rating specified on PS Audio's site, or in the manual.

2. The PPP draws less than 1 amp at idle with no connected load. See my review.

3. The PPP is rated to provide a continuous 1500 watts. It is capable of deliveing three times that output on a short term basis from its capacitor banks for those momentary peaks that may exceed its continuous rating. You must always consider total connected load to any power source, but remember that amplifiers rarely draw anywhere near there full load current (not counting Class A amps) because load is dependent on output, and music has continuously variable output.

Dan...I read your review of the Power Plant Premier that you posted back in April. Very nice review and thanks for doing it. I noticed though that you said you don't plug in your MC501 amps into it, rather plugging those directly into the wall with a dedicated line. Just curious why? Is your sense that power amps are robbed of dynamics or juice when plugged into some form of power conditioning (or regenerating in this case) unit? Just curious as to what the reasoning is there? I currently use a Shunyata Hydra 8 with my equipment. I may audition the PPP just to see if it makes an even bigger difference. Thx

I have my pair of 1.2ks plugged into a pair of PPP which are plugged into a pair of 20amp lines. I seem to get a bit quieter background that allows some additional detail to come forward. There does seem to be a loss of immediacy to the music but it is not significant. I have never felt like the PPP limited the power getting to the amps.

cmalak.......When I wrote that review, that was my very first PS Audio Power Plant Premier. At that time I was not a veteran PPP user. Now that I am familiar with the performance capabilities of the PPP, I am running two in my main system, one for the two MC501 power amps, and one for the preamp and all sources.

Initially, my reason for not running the power amps off the first PPP was because I have two dedicated 20 amp circuits behind my audio rack, and I wanted to keep the two power amps on one dedicated circuit, and the remaining gear on the the other dedicated circuit.

I now have two more Power Plant Premiers, for a total of four. One powers the all tube sound system in my studio, and the other powers the MX120, MR85, and MC352 in my home theater system.

Thx Dan and Jim for the feedback. I will report back how I make out once I audition the PPP.

You will love it! I sell about 10-15 a month, they are backordered again.

I use a small brigade of them in each of my systems.

Thx Ivan. I will definitely check it out. I currently use the Hydra 8 as I mentioned so it will be intertesting to compare that to the PPP. The Shunyata Hydra 8 is a passive conditioner but it has certainly given me a blacker background, enhancing overall resolution. It will be interesting to see if the PPP betters it on that front and if it provides any additional benefits. Thank you all for the feedback.
