The China Conservatory of Music in Beijing uses PMC monitor speakers for its recording studio


The China Conservatory of Music (CCM) was established in Beijing in 1964. The CCM is primarily involved in the teaching and research of traditional Chinese music and traditional Chinese musical instruments. Recently, the CCM had added a new music hall with a professional recording studio to its facilities.



The China Conservatory of Music (CCM) was established in Beijing in 1964. The CCM is primarily involved in the teaching and research of traditional Chinese music and traditional Chinese musical instruments. Recently, the CCM had added a new music hall with a professional recording studio to its facilities.


Being a major institution of higher education under the Ministry of Culture means the CCM has to be the best internationally in its facility setups and faculty members. After much thought was given to the choice of equipment for its new recording studio, the Conservatory had decided to select PMC speakers and Bryston amplifiers for its 5.1 monitoring system.

A total of three PMC BB5s are used for the front LCR and a pair of IB2s for its surround LR channels; an XB3 subwoofer is also included in the system. Four sets of Bryston 7BSST mono are used to drive the BB5s and XB3 while a set of 4BSST is used for the surrounds.
With the installation of this monitoring system, the CCM now has joined the list of many top-notch sound studios in the world, including the Dolby labs, Lucas Film and Sony Mastering in New York, and many more which could be found at PMC’s website .

Are these the "i" series?

What... only IB2S for surrounds

These appear to active... So they are not the i-series models. The active series is a fairly large step in performance across the board in every aspect of performance.
