Irvine, CA (May 19, 2010)--T Bone Burnett and his longtime session engineer Mike Piersante have been using a pair of prototype PMC AML2 Active Reference Monitors while working on an upcoming Elton John/Leon Russell CD.

“We had heard the AML2s here at The Village Studios during a Grammy Week party in late January and wanted to see what they would sound like for the mixes we were completing in Studio B,” said Piersante. “I liked them instantly! The AML2s sounded so good--accurate, finely-detailed and capable of astonishing playback levels--that we hijacked them!”

Piersante, only half seriously, offers that he’ll return the loudspeakers when the first production units reach North America from England later this month. Piersante has been Burnett’s first-call engineer for the past 14 years, working on numerous projects together, including Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’s Raising Sand, which won Record of the Year at the 2009 Grammy Awards.

“I love these speakers,” T Bone Burnett enthuses of PMC’s new-generation active systems. “The AML2s are incredibly useful small speakers with great depth, clarity and volume.” The producer is currently completing a new CD with Elton John and Leon Russell, which was tracked in Studio D at The Village with orchestra and horn section, and mixed in Studio B on a large-format Neve 88R analog console with the new AML2 monitors.



Tentatively entitled The Union, the new CD is scheduled for release later this year. The duo is also planning a project for Elvis Costello, with whom they last worked in 2008. The new CD will be tracked in Nashville and overdubbed/remixed at The Village using their AML2 monitors.

“The first mixes I heard on the AML2s revealed details that I had not heard before,” Piersante acknowledges. “They offer a high level of transparency and depth, and produce a much bigger and full-spectrum sound than you would think capable from such a compact design; they don’t need subwoofers. The AML2s get very loud with no distortion nor overload limiting--T Bone likes to listen real loud! But I can monitor at lower levels with the same degree of confidence; the clarity and definition are outstanding, with a broad stereo image and with amazing depth. There is no listener fatigue, even after long mixing sessions.”

“The new AML2 inherits the legendary AML Series design and adds an EQ tilt, an enhanced power supply, and a revised cabinet structure with additional internal damping,” offers Maurice Patist, PMC’s strategic sales manager, Specialist Systems Group. “A unique dual-driver layout with a low crossover frequency of just 1.4 kHz enables the AML2 to deliver astoundingly accurate playback for music and speech. The AML2’s performance cannot be matched by any other similarly sized reference monitor loudspeaker.”
