klipschfan.......Other than the Class D amplifier in my Fathom f113 subwoofer, I am in a wait and see holding pattern on Class D full frequency audio amps. I think the designers still have some more distance to go.

Have owned a PS Audio C-100 integrated and a Tact Audio M2150XDM with onboard room correction. Would still like to hear the new PMC DB/TB IIAS with the new amp. Believe the old model used The Flying Mole Class D amps. Don't know the source of the new amp, maybe Bryston...?
Not sure yet, think that the AML1 MK2 may be based on the new amp as well instead of the Bryston 2B/3B. Still no info available.

PMC seem to put in an appearance at all the UK shows that I ever visit and the sound they get using Bryston electronics (for which they're the UK importer and distributor) is always good to very good, albeit sometimes a bit brightly lit.
But the sound of the IB2i's at the Bristol show in February 2010 being driven by their new Class D amplifier was terrible, quite unlike any other PMC/Bryston dem I've ever heard, and I do know the IB2's, as I own a pair, albeit not the very latest i versions which are apparently quite a step forward from the original IB2's (with a hefty price hike to match). Either PMC's Class D amp's didn't like the quality of the mains they were getting at the show, what with so much other equipment plugged in on the same circuit, or they're simply a very long way removed from (and inferior to) the sound of Bryston amp's. I just can't understand how PMC can have thought that the sound of that particular dem was remotely satisfactory. To my ears it was awful, whilst right next door, the sound of PMC's new fact models driven by Bryston electronics was, as usual, amongst the very best of the show. |

Harvest
I finally got a chance to hear the new "i" version against my non "i" and would keep my non version any day of the week unless I won a pair in a raffle.A used pair of MB2-$10,000 vs $20,000 for a new tweeter,a little rear veneer and.....a couple x-over parts for the new tweeter.Love the sound. |
