Dean, I was so underwhelmed with the SACD experience that I do not even bother hooking up the player to the two channel rig.

I think I would be better off saving up to upgrade my Naim streamer with the XP5 XS external psu.

Listening to several in this series of wonderful sonatas by Clementi... lots of fine program material here -> a dozen discs worth, and so far so good. So very good indeed. Clementi bridged Mozart to Beethoven and you can hear it clearly in his compositions. Fanciful at times, deeply emotional at others - and all wonderfully executed by Howard Shelley.

Playing this now Karl... Brahms even does the trick for a Sunday morning... bought it after seeing one of your posts a couple of weeks back thanks

Dean, am going off my memory but think you already own the entire catalogue of Naim external power supplies so not preaching to the converted here but even putting a small $500 linear external supply on my Calyx DAC was a game changer... my non-audio mate who at times also acts as devil's advocate for me was floored at the difference a little black box could make... like switching on the reality filter on the music... much bigger change than different DAC chip or 384 sampling rates IMO... nice to bring home a realistic audio upgrade that actually get's the nod of approval at home as well.

Good morning one and all,
Sunny Sunday here - cool morning (60's) and light breeze. Am tucked up in bed visiting AA with the morning cup of tea nursuing a flu, shortly to get up and spin some vinyl in earnest.

As I type I have playing a little obscure Danish Chamber Music: interesting, very modern but thoroughly enjoyable: Notturno up. 19 (Wind Quintet of 1932) Notturno up. 19 (The Danish Wind Quintet): Philips 6578 005. Sorry no cover: my googlefu is weak today.

Ohh - how lovely. Good pick!

..and speaking of focusing a bit more on buying music (vs gear), I must admit my envy-o-meter is redlining when I see such fortuitous acquisitions as that amazing Ring box set (Andy - congrats!). Back when I used to spin the wax, I would routinely scour yard-sales and flea markets and often unearth treasures (though nothing close to what some of you over-achievers seem to be scoring). But since my wax has waned (bah-dump pshhh), I look forward to the day when CDs and SACDs of high subjective value begin to flood the same venues. Yes, I know you can find CDs at yard sales currently, but I have little need for Mariah Carey's first album or ToTo's greatest hits. When Mahler's complete symphonies in virgin shrink-wrap can be found for 50 cents - I'll be breathlessly reporting my jubilance back here in a hurry

Ha! well I am $450 lighter in the pocketbook this morning and wondering about the weeks bills coming up - dunno about the 50 cent specials - I get them but only occasionally - most of the stuff I buy is NM so commands a good price.. I paid the seller $150 for the Ring cycle alone: no real bargains to be had yesterday except for their condition and rarity. It really was a collection for the Opera buffs - I left behind many, many mint Operas I would have loved. Not too worry - someone else will love them just as much.

I think some Joan Sutherland and Handel will be on the agenda today.

Happy listening,

AS

I have Naim HiCap and NAPSC power supplies for my preamp. I also have a Flatcap XS I'm selling. Unfortunately the Flatcap XS is a PSU for the analog products and my ND5 XS needs a Naim digital PSU (like the XP5 XS or the XPS). They aren't cheap.

Meanwhile, I have pretty much decided that instead of making a lateral move or smallish upgrade from Rega (RP3/TTPSU) to Clearaudio (Concept) I've decided to go for a more significant upgrade with a Clearaudio Performance SEP. Vinyl trumps digital in my world, so no new Naim digital PSU for me.

Acis and Galatea: features Joan Sutherland, Peter Pears, Owen Bannigan and David Galliver and Thurston Dart, harpsichord with the St. Anthony Singers and the Philomusica of London under the direction of Sir Adrian Boult. This was recorded at Watford Town Hall in London in May and June of 1959 in stereo. Joan Sutherland's connection with Decca was first established in this with recording which appeared on the company's L'Oiseau-Lyre label.

Box Set, 2 Discs, L`Oiseau-Lyre, EX/EX, Philomusica Of London, Boult, plus Book, SOL60011-2

In my haul yesterday - NM - not a mark on it.

Highly highly recommended.

Joan Sutherland is probably, no....make that she is, my favourite soprano. Superb tone and timbre. Technically she could do anything, at her prime.

Here's another set of piano pieces performed by Howard Shelley which I am thoroughly enjoying this fine Sunday morn. Hope you all have a wonderful day
