No Jerry you don't need to do anything!! Keep the 808i.2.

It's not limited, you just plug a twinstore into your network and it all works seamlessly. Expanding the MS300 or 750 is a bit wonky. The TwinStores can easily be upgraded to 2TB drives. You already have an MCD 500, so just go digital in to that, it's a great combination.

Any of you new Sooloos owners need a little extra storage space? I've got a first generation Store 1 and Store 2 that I'm about to get rid of.
PM me if interested.

David,

there are a few users at Meridianunplugged doing that. I considered doing it with spdif to my Orpheus dac. After lengthy discussions it appears that the best sound is using the ID40 card which is in the 808i.3 cdp or 861 V.6 Processor or in the MS600 unit.

After a bit of thought I decided to get rid of my Orpheus and replace it with the 808i.3 and Sooloos rather than just add the MS600 which is a unit designed to allow Sooloos to connect to an analogue system (non dsp) such as yours.

So your saying that the C15 digitial out to my MCD500 would not take advantage of the full capability of the sooloos performance ?

That is apparently how it works. You would need a MS600 to achieve this (it is not too expensive at about 1,350 pounds in the UK. The ID40 card is 1,000 pounds so it is little extra for a great looking piece of kit to house it.

HOWEVER, I have never demoed a sooloos going spdif to a 3rd party dac and compared it to the same sooloos with either a MS600 or 808i.3 so I can not be 100% certain. One can always add the MS600 later or demo it to see if there is a big difference.

Congrats Howie,

Now you have one of the best music servers. Enjoy.

Strange as it may seems (or sound), the Sooloos DO sound better thru the ID40 in the 808.3 than thru the "similar" MS600. Akin to like your experience that the sound thru thru the 861 is better than just thru the 808 before.

Hmmm, now to find the money to buy that 861v6.

Starve maybe .....

Cheers!

I'm using my Sooloos with a McIntosh MDA1000 with great results. I've used servers from McIntosh, Sooloos, Olive, Envive and Cary with my MDA1000 and they all pretty much sound the same going through the MDA1000. I would expect the same results with a MCD500.

As Howie says, there is much talk on the Meridian forum about getting the best sound from a Sooloos through an ID40 or MS600 but I think almost all of this talk is from people who are using Meridian speakers which have DACs built into them.

I'm trying to get my dealer to get a MS600 for me to demo against the MDA1000. I doubt the Meridian MS600 will sound better than a MCD500 or MDA1000 but I'll give it a try if I get the chance.
