Think I'll wait for their 50th Anniversary Combo!

This time, too high a trade in top up dollars for me to swallow.

Current system still sounded as good as ever!

Jerry.......So the local dealer is trying to steal you system while selling you the Ruby system for top dollar? There's no way a dealer will give you original retail in trade for the whole system, but maybe your system and $10K. I know this leaves you a bit dissapointed. What was the difference he was asking?

Hi Dan,

I am willing to go up to S$20k. But he's asking for S$50k! Now, thats way too much for me, no matter how much I love the Ruby's. I'll rather build up a TriField with the monies. In fact, I have bought the HD621 already and delivering next week before I go for my short 2 weeks work assignment cum vacation with my wife. I am thinking of changing my Oppo 83se NuForce for the newer BDP95. Only S$1.7k Plenty of change to do a lot of upgrade and changes for the better.

I may have lost acquiring a Limited Edition system but surely, I don't think I miss much IF I stop visiting the dealer and getting myself hooked.

I think the 50th Anniversary Edition will be even more exciting. Till then, STILL enjoying my WHITE system. Nothing much I can fault. Love it! Thanks for your advise though!

Cheers!

Jerry I'm glad you overcame the 40th anniversary upgraditis. You still have a very nice ride ahead of you and I hope I can be of some help if you want to get the most out of your pennies while transforming into a multichannel system.

I actually belive there is not much use upgrading 83se to 95 soundwise as your are only using the digital circuits and none of those are powered by the linear transformer in the BDP95.

What you need here is:
A white DSP7200HC
a white 861V6 with ID40 card (the difference between the 808.3i vanilla is not too great and you could instead trade in the 808.3i to a white 818 for a larger leap in soundquality).
4 white surrounds of some kind, 4xDSP5200 works well here.

Powerside:
Going for a Hydra Cyclops first powering the DSP8k's will probably do most bang for the buck in audioquality. The hydra cyclops is equal to or better than the Triton for currenthungry monoamps or large active speakers like the DSP8k's.

Other than that I think you are on the right track

Hi Crion,

Knowing my local dealer's attitude when it comes to upgrades/trade-in's, I think I will give a miss on the 808.3 to a WHITE 818 as I will be walking into another slaughter.

Better to make my monies worth by haggling for a good discount for a WHITE DSP7.2kHC and a 861v6 black to match. As I am living in a small space, I will KIV the rear speakers (in mind would be the DSP7.2k Whites) upgrade and live with TriField until such time permits.

I am looking at both the Shunyata as well as the Audience stuff as they belong to the same dealer here. So, good to have one last comparison before making the jump. Good as the entry level Shunyata Venom3 are, I find that its stiffness is a little difficult for me to maneuver in there cabinet while the thinner and more flexible Audience cables are so much easier. Cost wise, they are about the same. I'll see what can come out of this.

Well, a lot to chew on and I am sure it will keep me thinking thru the whole of this week while the cabinet is being done up.

Thanks for the advise. I sure treasure them.

Cheers!

Hi Jerry,
Sorry to hear about the less than stellar trade-ins. I guess the dealers are perhaps more cautions nowadays to make safe "bets" only.

I know you usually go for black electronics but I can't help suggesting it, it could look awesome in white.

So you could be looking at trading in your 808.3i for a 861v6/ID40 + DSP7200HC? I mean if you later want increased performance from source the 818.x option is there.

I only have one remark in regards to Audience and Shunyata about gauge. For low voltage electronics you are fine with using either. But for big active speakers like the DSP8k, monoamps and powerconditioners you are well benefited by going to lower gauge(bigger). The Audience lowest gauge (biggest) is 10. For your amps/active speakers and Talos/Triton/Cyclops filter the lower gauge Hydra HC VTX(9), Zitron Python(9) and Anaconda Zitron(7) would be beneficial.

PS. I received my Anaconda CX(7 gauge) 20A cable to my Triton and it's settling in now. My thought is that if it betters my Furutech Flux 7 gauge PC the other one will go to my future Hydra Cyclops for DSP8k's. DS.

Hi Crion,

I will be KEEPING the 808.3 and the 800v4 DAX (although its obsolete I do love the machine, itself a very, very good CD/DVD player cum Preamp). I am adding the 861v6 and a WHITE DSP7.2kHC, if I get the right price I am willing to pay for these 2 equipments. Its time I hit back with a low discount offer.

In fact, a source I know in UK had a WHITE 808.3 to which I can trade, but for color, I do have a problem as where can I find a WHITE color 800v4 front panel? Unless I buy the Ruby where Meridian is committed to supporting the entire range of SAME color, don't think they will do a white specially for me. So, it will be black for the 808.3, 800v4 and 861v6, while the speakers will be white.

The Audience I have in mind is of the 20A version, so do have enough nice to power the speakers. Its because it has 12 outlets I am interested, as it does saves me a lot of space behind the cabinet. The Shunyata Triton only has 8, an improvement of only 2 outlets per se.

As usual, thanks for the advise as I value them dearly. The input serves me well when making the right decisions, even though at times, I may even stall on them, unlike the past, where I am so easily parting my hard earned monies and then finding I have made a boo-boo.

Cheers!

Jerry,

I agree the 40th Ann is probably a little bit steep at $S50k extra. Any reason not to try the 818? You can still keep your 808.3.
