What's the oldest to get that makes sense?

Also, is the 6000>7000 but less than the 7200?

Easier to find 5000's!

thanks,

DSP6000 is the flagship predecessor to DSP8000.

It is sealed, has 4 bass drivers and separate head and recently got upgraded firmware.

DSP7200 is bass-reflex got 2 bassdrivers but vastly newer electronics. But electronics while newer can't change the fact that the physical resources of the DSP6000 are greater than DSP7200.

DSP5000 24/96 are easy to find and they make great sides and surrounds in a high-end multichannel setup.

They are built to last. If that DSP6000 was made 2002 that's not too bad.

If you would need any spareparts later on Marc Koval runs The Repair Shop and have got great reviews from Meridian owners.

Was there an updated connector used for Meridian that is worth getting newer speakers for?

SpeakerLink. There are ways around using it but it is the current preferred connection.

Speakerlink (shielded cat6 RJ45 cable) is higher voltage and differential PCM. When you get a new pre/pro like 861v6 you plug in a "Reviver" on your s/pdif+comms speakers. This 3rd party small converter adds 150€ to the cost and is only necessary if you get the new Speakerlink based pre/pro's from Meridian.

Highend-Source

There are no DSP6000 with Speakerlink.

I use Revivers (black) in my setup to get access to the 861v6 and they work and look great.

I'm not very active on the 'gon but compare with the Restaurant section at "meridianunplugged".

What's your current status? Did you find what you were looking for?

Chiming in because I read Kal's review (2000ish) of the full Meridian System on the Stereophile website.
