IMHO, I believe that McIntosh should and will correct the design flaw. If they don't do something to rectify what has happened, then they will lose much of the ground swell of interest the MEN220 has created and effectively lose many many potential sales. So, I can't see them continuing to produced the MEN220 in its current state.

Someone with influence (Ivan?) should suggest to McIntosh that once they begin to produce MEN220 correctly designed they should offer an exchange program to all who have bought the MEN220, or at the very least, be willing to correct the design flaw at their own expense, much the same way automobile manufactures do when they are faced with a design flaw. I'm guessing exchanging the units would be more practical and economical.

Given that McIntosh had the 'amp' trade up program exhanging the flawed MEN220 shouldn't be a big issue for them. I would have no hesitation in buying a used MEN220 that had the fault corrected. We all know how long and reliable McIntosh gear is, so McIntosh have little to lose, even in these hard economic times.

Personally, I think we will see something very close along these lines, anything else would be downright stupid.

To add to that, I don't think the engineering change should be that
complicated. We are talking about having true balanced outputs
(there were no issues with the balanced inputs in the end,
correct?), something that it should be mastered after having so
many generations of great products on balanced signals.

Yes, there should be a testing/QA period but the risks of this
update should be relatively low and the benefit(s) of it should be
much greater. One can assume that the mayority of the Mcintosh
customers tries to use balance connections to maximise SNR and
it's this customer base that will benefit for the update.

McIntosh should no public beta like PS Audio does. Knocks out bugs in real life situations and keeps buyers happy.

Any idea about when we might see a MEN220 press release?

What are we talking about in terms of units in the field, a number in the hundreds? A thousand? What percentage of the owners are using the balanced outputs with balanced amps? I think correcting this in a proper fashion is very doable for McIntosh with minimal disruption to the affected customers.

I wouldn't be surprised if the folks using unbalanced connections don't even bother getting the units "fixed".

E.......I think you are being a bit tough on our beloved McIntosh. The company had a misstep with the balanced outputs on the MEN220. The problem was identified, and is being addressed. Nothing I have heard indicates McIntosh plans to ignore their MEN220 customers. I feel confident a satisfactory solution is eminent.
