David, there are dozen of preamps that could easily work in your system but at this point you may as well keep it all in the McIntosh family due to aesthetics. Just keep looking for that C2300/C500.

I would also wait to get the 2300, but he asked for other brands, so I tossed a couple out there.

This makes me scratch my head more then I was scratching a minute ago. Do you mean No-one, even at McIntosh can tell you when they may be able to ship you a new Unit?

That's just plain rediculous... Honestly sometimes I think people need to ask for the president of Mcintosh himself, and raise a little shit with him about the situation.

I just order a C2300 last Friday. I just got off the phone with my dealer and was told McIntosh just shipped it and it should arrive this week.

Sometimes, even with the vastness of the internet, being in our own little world, such as AA, makes problems seem larger than they are. Not imaginary, just out of proportion.

Should McIntosh simply have not shipped units until the manuals were ready, and ignore the hue and cry from their dealers and customers to get the units out?

As far as sales exceeding demand, for whatever the reason, that happens to the largest manufacturers in the world, such as car manufacturers, all of the time. So it does not surprise me that it happens to little old Mcintosh.

As far as McIntosh's response on these forums, should they respond honestly, such as not finding a problem with a unit, or take the grief from members for not responding at all? A piece of electronics that doesn't funtion properly one day and does the next is nothing new. Or is the only response that would be acceptable be one that agrees with the members, regardless of it's accuracy?

Just kind of thinking out loud and not trying to flame anyone.

I think the Sim Audio P7 would be a good match for the 501's or the 402. It is a dual mono, fully balanced design, priced about $7 to 8K. It is very fast, clean and detailed without being harsh. The 501's smooth nature would compliment the P7 very well. Sim Audio warrants their gear for 10yrs.

My Sim SuperNova cdp matches the MA7000 in the same way, it is an excelent combo.

I would also try a used BAT REX for $10K. I have heard some good things about Modwright's top pre w/ PS

You can get an ARC REF 5 for about the same price as the Modwright 36.5 with power supply and it's a much better sounding unit as well as being built by a company with 40 years of mfg. experience. 1 box, no umbilicals and no tube rectifiers to cause grief down the road.

In terms of other preamplifiers working well with Mc, I've never had a problem using other preamplifiers with my 1.2kw's, MC275 or any other Mc amp. Balanced or unbalanced, they seem to work very well with whatever is upstream.

I have even used an old Dynaco PAS3x tube preamp with a pair of McIntosh MC30 mono tubes amp driving Altec Voice of the Theather A7-500's, and literally rocked the house.
