Isn't it a coincident or what that those who like wonderful

•music

also love beautiful

•photography

and great-tasting

•spirits?

Aren't they all "music" to the •soul, the •mind, and the •flesh, respectively?

I am gonna pour myself another shot of Laphroaig single malt Scotch whisky.
Cheers!

Hi Philip,
Very nice system. Look like you have Vibrapods under those machines right? How effective are they?

Thanks,
Hugh

Here to you Jerome and all our friends at AA and Masterlu:

Its Sunday evening here in the Pacific Northwest and am hanging loose with my MC275s and Patricia Barber's VERSE is playing in the background. If I mentioned that "I loved you guys" more than once--you know what I've been drinking...

I am not much of a reviewer but since Jerome asked, I'll share with you all a few of my thoughts about the MC275s Vs. MA7000 with a pair of Harbeths 7s. Please forgive me for anything I might say wrong....Let me share with you some background details to set the stage right:

I started out messing around with Musical Fidelity and Transparent and fell in love with them about 8 years ago. For a while, MuFi was just right for me with the "hydrid" tube-solid state Amps, Pres, and CDs, etc...

But then I began to ask myself the question: If these MuFi hydrids sounded "that good"--what would the REAL tube gear be sounding like? I started visiting as many of the audio stores in my area as possible when my time allowed, listening to various systems. Most everyone in these stores were often decent and friendly to me during my quest for better sound.

In the mean time, I was constantly lurking on various McIntosh forums to read and learn and drool and there were more drooling...especially after learning a bit of what Masterlu was capable of doing with Macs...

About four years ago, I purchased the C2300 after some wonderful listening experience at a small audio store in Bellingham, WA. What wonderful, kind and cool people they are!

The C2300 is an exceptional preamp for me because it fit right in between my then current setup seamlessly and gave me heavenly musical bliss. Now, I realized that I was only just scratching the surface of the iceberg...

I started to rid many of my MuFi pieces and kept only the A5 series along with a few small X series. This was around the same time that my local dealer quit carrying MuFi and went with another brand.

Two years ago, I bought a pair of MC501's and they made a believer out of me. Everything about the MC501s were RIGHT except that they weren't the MC1.2KWs in terms of power, and they didn't have the burly handles and the GIGANTIC blue meters!

Sadly, the MC501s were replaced by the MC1.2KWs--very sad for my wallet that is. I just could not bear the torment that was boiling inside me every night dreaming about the MC1.2KWs and the thunder and lightning they might bring to my soul.

Before buying, I weighed the possibilities and various aspects between the MC1.2KWs and the MC2301s. I ended up choosing the MC1.2KWs because of two main reasons:

1) The MC1.2KWs had a bit more dynamics and was very pleasant and tube-like to my ears, although not to the extent of the MC2301s.

2) I was and still am, an absolute novice when it comes to tubes in terms of their uses, personalities, potentials, capabilities, applications, possibilities, handling, rolling, etc...and I thought that maybe someday, I could play around with a couple MC275s first, before handling them BIG BAD BOYs.

For a month or so after bringing the MC1.2KWs home and mating them with the C2300 tube PreAmp, I could barely eat, sleep, or concentrate because all I wanted to do was to play disc after disc and listen to the music through the MC1.2KWs...Without any previous experience, I had somehow stumbled onto one of the nicest combinations of Pre-Pow--this set up has been giving me a real treasure of precious music that I have never experienced before in my life.

The MC1.2KWs and C2300 were set up in our bedroom so that I could be near my wife (The "Ultimate Amp"), uh...I mean near my amps during all hours of the night. They are driving a pair of BW 805s and an REL sub--just enough to rattle the walls and windows when the music was playing.

Last year, I added the MA7000 along with a pair of Harbeth's 7s to our living room after some serious considerations in terms of listening experience, built quality, convenience, killer look, etc. The MA7000 and Harbeth's 7s' musical quality is MAGNIFICENT to my ears. This set up replaced the MuFi A5 Series and Totem Forest speakers--they are now sitting idle waiting to go to my son's room.

I believe that the Mcintosh MA7000 is one of the best kept secrets around. It sure was for me. If I may, I think of the MA7000 as a little brother to the MC501--while the MC501 is a little brother to the MC1.2KW. They all share very similar stunning and beautiful sonic characteristics, only differing in magnitudes and intensities in my mind.

Now that the new MC275s have replaced the MA7000 in my living room--they are driving the same set of Harbeths 7s. I believe that I have gained 100% in terms of realism, warmth, organic, mood, staging, air. Listening experience, musicality and my affinity to the sound has doubled from my previous set up.

I also believe that Harbeth 7's is probably the second best kept secret around--next to the MA7000. Presently, I believe that the MC275s in mono is the ultimate set up for my small living room. I am now a true convert and believer in the sweetness and realism that the MC275s can bring to music--and I haven't done much of any tweaking around yet...

Jerome, I am looking forward to two more additional monos some time in the future--they would be nothing but the ultimate MC2301s. I hope that future is reasonably near before I weather away due to old age and yearning, yet again, of a better setup. ;-)

Cheers,

Phil

Hi Hugh, these Vibrapods fit nicely around the feet of the MC275s. My kids run around all the time and dance in front of the setup. I found them to be very dampening and adequate. I throw them out every few months because they dry up and loose the dampening affects. The only negative part is that they leave an oily residue on the surface of the rack and against the bottom of the sets.
