Parametric equalisers afford the user a great deal of adjustability to the tonal balance of your system, but unless you know how to use one correctly you can waste an awful lot of time endlessly tweaking this way and that and still not achieve a truly satisfying result. The Auto Target Curve Adjustment facility in the TacT 2.2XP makes this aspect of fine tuning immensely easier whilst at the same time showing the way to how best to use the parametric equaliser (should you feel the need to use that as well). Stick to one octave adjustment points and limit the spread of each adjustment to one octave so that what you do at one frequency point doesn't overlap with its neighbour. Also, page 11 of the Behringer DEQ1024 user manual contains a chart which I found immensely useful in what to expect from making adjustments at different frequency points. Without such guidance, you can find yourself fumbling endlessly in the dark.

The TacT, of course, is a purely digital device, albeit with a D:AC for analogue outputs, so it doesn't have any tubes to sweeten the end result. Also, some would say that with so many Japanese AV receivers incorporating room correction now available for just a few hundred dollars or pounds, any 2 or 2+2 channel device is old hat. But TacT was amongst the very first companies to offer room correction and would probably claim still to be at the cutting edge.

Alternatively, an increasing number of room correction devices are now available that are designed simply to sit between an analogue preamp and power amp/s, notably the Lyngdorf RP-1 ~ but that doesn't have the adjustability of the TacT or the McIntosh, so you have to hope that one of its factory pre-set voicings gives you what you want.

But when all is said and done, I couldn't live without room correction. In my room, the bass would simply be too boomy and fixing that is what a good RC system can do like nothing else.

Well, the MEN220 is set up this morning and after taking 5 measurements, the MEN220 displayed a 99% room knowledge and RP correction of 9%.

So, up first was Hugh Masekela's Hope LP and proceeded to the track Stimela (The Coal Train) which I heard recently on a similiar setup as mine but with SF Elipsas.

At first as Hugh began singing it sounded like sh*t -- then I realized it would help drastically if I put the MT10 on 45rpm.

So, once at 45RPM, I began listening. At 60 on the C500C as Hugh began the into to the song, his voice was strong, the choo-choo impersonation was tight and impressively realistic too. At the point when the drums came in, I thought for certain my back wall would implode spraying drywall and moulding into the listening area. Holy smokes, talk about tight & forceful -- it was not like prior to the MEN220. The soundstage just smacked of well seperated firmness.

Next up was Melody Gardots' Worrisome Heart. The piano intro to the lead song was very delicate -- moreso than I recall anyway.

So, as I continue to evaluate the MEN220 it definitely appears to have corrected abnormalities that now results in the music having more aliveness to it. I like that.

Bob

P.S. -- Worth the wait Dan.

Bob.......This is fantastic. Another happy camper. I am so anxious to have my MEN220 delivered, and hear what it does for my system. I am afraid it is going to be so awesome I'll have to buy a second one for the studio tube system.
