I cannot tell for sure on the C2300, but if it has the exact same behaviour as the
C2200, you cannot do that. From what I understand, the passthru option is set so that the HT processor does the switching and volume control to both the two channel and surround channels and therefore the preamp needs to be disabled. Now, my HT processor is Yamaha, so I cannot tell if this behaviour is the same with a Mcintosh HT processor. I tested the trigger output from the RXV1 and when it's on it outputs +5V and this forces the C2200 into passthru mode (if the cable is connected). The only way that I've found to stop outputing +5V is by shutting it down. It would be very nice that I could stop sending the signal through the remote without having to shut it down. This way I could control when to engage the passthru mode. Unfortunately, the manual doesn't go into these sort of details. Perhaps all this works more smoothly with a Mc HT processor such as the MX-150.
