Question price for the cd500

I am sure this is a silly question, but-

with the new mcintosh blue ray player out, selling for I think what 8g, what is the price for the 500?

Am I correct in thinking that the blue ray player has better dac's and for straight cd playback would sound better?

Is the price on the 500 going down at all? Is it worth spending the money on the blue ray just for that, or is the blue ray, as far as just blue ray, that that much better then say, a mid line player like the marantz bd7004? I know it is cheap, (I think I only spent 700 ish) But I have to say, the sound (movies- I dont use it for cd)and picture is really really good, to me that is.

What I am trying to ask, and i know I take the long way in asking questions, is, - is it really worth spending over a thousand dollars for a blue ray player if you dont need it to do anything but play the movie?

Probably not. I have an Oppo BDP-83 SE which has its audio stage upgraded, and I use it for SACD/DVD-A and blu ray, and I have a MCD500 that I use for two channel and as a DAC for my MS700. I could not be happier. I realize the MVP881 is a great piece but I am not sure 8K is justified in performance, with the difference, you can buy a very big collection of blu rays.

I would get the $1000 Blu Ray if all you wanted to do was to play movies.

I would spend the other $7000 on other goodies, but that's just me.

If you do not already own a MCD-500 and are willing to spend at least $2k for stand alone DAC in addition to the extra $1500 or so you will pay for the 881, then the new piece might be for you.

I have a different philosophy; Hollywood spends $100M+ on a single blockbuster, so for me I want the very best audio & video to reproduce the experience like it was intended.

Better make sure that Mcintosh isnt just an Oppo dropped into a Mcintosh chassis.......
