They both buy DAC's from the same company, they both might even buy drives from the same company, that still doesn't make them the same product. The McIntosh does have balanced outputs, and looks a lot better.

It's not an Oppo, it's a Denon DVD-A1UDCI.

I think there's truth in that. They're very similar, right down the exact placement of the SD card slot on the front. Now don't be hatin', I'm just making an observation.

In a year or two the MVP881 price may drop to around $2100 like the MVP871 is now, when the MVP891 player will be out. Such is life in the technology world. I have had a lot of pleasure listening to my MCD500 and when Mcintosh comes out with a 32 bit DAC MCD500 replacement or MDA replacement someone will be able to pick up the MCD500 for a great price.

No hold on i take that back..... what if that MCintosh was an oppo placed in a Lexicon placed in a Mcintosh, with holes cut away at the bottom to see the venting of the oppo.

Well to be fair, the MVP871 has been around for a few years and those who bought it when new had enjoyed it. You can always wait and wait and wait for the the price to drop, but those who bought it are enjoying theirs while you wait.

I agree with your point about waiting. Looking forward to some day getting over to one of Ivan's home theater demo rooms

its not that I am waiting for the price to come down, its more is it worth spending 8g on a blue ray player, when I can get the 500, and use the marantz 7004? its like, how much better can the picture be? to the point is it worth 7g more?

then you get into the can a unvs. player play 2chnl better then a dedicated player?

Well... shelf space can be at a premium... So an all in one player can free room for something else?
