MA6700 and MAC6700 are listed on the McIntosh website

No manuals, but at least the brochures are there.

Nice to see big pics too.

As an MA6600 owner I'm a bit disappointed w/ the decision to aggregate many of the pre-amp adjustments to the push/turn mult-function knob on the left. ..Can't help but think this is a cost-cutting move. C'mon McIntosh, us Mac owners like knobs! ..As one person noted, operating now is a bit like operating a car stereo. It's still beautiful of course, but there's a bit less to love.

Specs wise, using the comparator on the website, it appears to be exactly like the MA6600 (though it shows the MA6700 having 2db more noise on the amp side, but I'm betting this is a typo as I can't imagine why that would be. Even if correct, it's a great spec.).

Guess I don't understand these. Seems to be rebadging of the MA6600, depending whether it has or does not have the TM2 tuner module. Just upgrade the MA6600 speaker terminals and call it a MA6600II.

They do both have 3 digital inputs versus none in the MA6600, which might appeal to some.

Also, the MA6700 is for export only, since the AM/FM tuner will only work in North America. It is the same unit as the MAC6700, less the tuner.

For those who prefer an integrated over separates, i.e., same quality - essential performance, the new MA6700 is actually quite some unit. It includes the new speaker terminals, upgraded mm and mc phono sections, highest quality headphone section, high quality DAC, fully digitally controlled volume and tone level adjustments, and the ability to add a high quality FM/AM tuner section. Wow.

The upgraded phonostage (MM & MC) and the DAC are new, along with the speaker terminals (although I had no problem with those on my MA6600), but the rest is the same as the MA6600. Still am quite unsure about ever wanting a built-in DAC that is not on a replaceable card.

I just found out that it will be shipping later this month.

Well, I would agree but I think the decision to remove the mono switch, trim select and trim adjust knobs from the faceplate and integrate their functions into a solitary push/scroll function knob represents a step backward. ..This may be how the managed to keep the pricing near the same.

The MA6700 "Not available" in US/CAN? What if you don't care at all about radio?

Unless the MAC6700 is the exact same price, what is the point of reducing consumer option in these markets?

mcintoshmagic 01-23-2013 08:33 PM

It doesn't make any sense. The MA6700 can accept the same tuner module as the MAC6700. It even says HD Radio on the faceplate even though that's not supported outside the US.
