I think it would really be good for someone in the know to explain exactly what we will be getting if we upgrade. As far as I understand it with my limited knowledge of USB, it is necessary that there be an asynchronous interface between the computer and the DAC for a low jitter enviornment to exist. What is the jittter with the C50 or the MCD1100 for USB? Will we be getting a state of the art computer audio or not? It seems like this information ought to be available.

But McIntosh may have solved the jitter problem with their USB uniquely for themselves. That's what engineering is all about, different approaches to solve a given problem. Isn't it a matter of jitter and if the Mac USB interface is truly low jitter then what difference does it make-isosynchronous vs asynchronous? Also how will it sound? At this point the picture remains extremely fuzzy for me.

I just want it to play without pops & clicks through a Mac OS.

Doesn't seem like a lot to ask for Mike..

I hope Mc "officially" releases the C48 & C50 updates this week and that they are everything we've all waited so long for...

The Audio Classics room at AK Fest in Novi, Michigan today had a C48 loaded with the updated firmware. It was showing 32/192 on the display while playing from the USB input. The music sounded very good.
One of the Audio Classics reps told me he expected the final update to be available to dealers on Tuesday of this week.

Any other C48/C50 owners have this update installed yet?
I initally had some issues with my Vortexbox music server not working after the upgrade, but now think they were self induced & unrelated...
I've tried it with a Win7 PC running JRiver Media Center and the Vortexbox (Linux based OS) and both work, so I'm guessing that it will work with MAC OS as no custom driver was needed with Linux
