Wow, the last thing I wanna pay for is a "premium" power control cable.

BUT -- don't you have the desire pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for a really "good" power cable that will tame and train the electrons to act "right" after traveling perhaps hundreds of miles from the electric generation plant, over various conductors and through several transformers and substations and then through the wiring in your house which probably mixes the little fellows up and gets them all confused before they travel the last 6 feet into your amplifier...

Well, yea, as my signature suggests. However I've heard of enough well respected people's experiences regarding them to be willing to give it a try. And I only buy them used so as to not be out much money if I decide they're not worth it. Also, since it's in the path of the power, I can mentally conceive how they could make a difference...even if some it's baseless and based in ignorance. However, I can't say the same for a power control cable.

But to your component, the power cord is the first few feet of the chain.

I guess it depends upon one's perspective (no pun intended). The tag I use, "Semi-audiophile" (maybe "semi-hobbyist" is more accurate) is a statement of my perspective on things audio as opposed to an attempt at cleverness, so I'm coming at this from an in-between, somewhat everyman (for lack of a better description) perspective. It seems to me the component's power supply knows only what it's getting through the cord attached to it, not what happened miles away. Maybe it's the same idea with interconnects, I don't know. Mac's new interconnects and speaker cables look very nice and I admit to some curiosity over them. I don't know that I'm going to replace anything I'm using now, but if I were in the market and the price reasonable I can't say I wouldn't consider them, at least in the pre-power connection, which is where I find ICs make the biggest difference. As for the power cord issue, I note Mac isn't offering those. Maybe a good idea for now. I would be equally curious on those, should they decide to jump into the fray.

I think I will change that tag under my name.

Power control cable, seriously? There is only one reason to buy that wire, looks. Perhaps running these pretty wires into a proudly displayed MC275 and wanting the exposed power control cable to match the other new McIntosh cables...perhaps. Other than that, a premium wire that has absolutely nothing to do with the sound chain is absolutely ridiculous. As McIntosh extends its line further into nonsense like this and cheapened core products as highlighted by the pathetic meters on their New MC8207, I am increasingly losing faith in this brand.

When a company like McIntosh turns off a customer like me with a boondoggle like this premium power control cable, it becomes a very slippery slope. Meanwhile, Audio Research's new line is looking increasingly attractive...
