Post MVP891 Owners Thread

Speaking with my dealer now. Looking at placing an order this week.

Anyone else landed a unit yet & what are your impressions?

Very nice drawer tray assembly - quiet, stable, sleek. good sound. It does sound different from the dedicated CD player models, but I think it's very good.

Thank you enit. Look forward to your further comments.

Dealer tells me that firmware is now directly updatable via Web Service.

Are the 2ch XLRs assignable for use as multi-channel FLR as well? Rather than requiring additional unbalanced RCA wiring for FLR, the objective would be to further utilise the 2ch DACS for mutli-ch if it doesn't already assign by default for multi-ch sources.

The Oppo 95 has this ability.

Not sure, have not seen the GUI yet. What am I waiting for? I'll go check that out now.

No, there's no special configuration to the 891 for the 2 channel balanced with the HT, but it seems to do simultaneous outputs, so that will work too.

Cool

I gather you have had no hiccups so far playing any source material. How are the Blue-ray load times?

Faster than the 881. It takes about 20 - 25 seconds from the insertion of the disc to the loading page of the BR disc. It's got a youtube menu, and it's a network player. I'm guessing if I have files lying around, it'll play. Picture is perfect.

Haven't tried navigating youtube, doubt I'll be using much of it, since I have the apple TV in my set. I wonder how the typing and all that will be.

On MVP891 the two channel and 7.1 outputs are separate so you do not have to chose what function the two channel outputs have. Both sections use their own audio circuitry.

thanks,

Besides the name will there be any advantages with 891 vs oppo 95?
