Thanks for that link, unfortunately at that price, I'll buy the Mac blu ray player, It does have nice features but not $15,000 worth. Krell has always been on the pricey side. They make great products, I just hope there not pricing themselves out of the market. Today's economy sucks. It's hard to justify spending that much on a Blu Ray player when it can be spent elsewhere. That player needs to be played back on a nice projector, IMO.
Hmmm, $8,000 on a blu ray player and $7,000 for a nice projector instead of a Krell player only.

It is interesting that Krell considers $15K a marketable number for their Blu-ray player with ESS Technology 32-bit Sabre Reference DACs. Oppo brings the same DACs to the table for under $900.00. I have little doubt the Krell player will most likely outperform the Oppo BDP-83SE by some margin, but will the Krell Evolution 555 performance difference be worth 16 and one half times the price of the BDP-83SE? That is the question.

There are people who question the worth of our McIntosh gear compared to Brand X. Most people would also say their is virtually no difference in the picture of a $200 player and the Oppo SE at $1k. That is a 5X difference. If I started thinking about the Bill of Material cost of most of the gear I look at , I could never get myself to buy it. But, that is not why we buy Hi End gear.

Jim.......I am not questioning the worth of the Krell Blu-ray player. I am simply pondering whether the actual performance differences between the two players is anywhere near reflected in the price gap between them. If my incentive to purchase audio gear was based soley on the value of a bill of materials, I would be listening to a Sony Walkman.

That is supposed to be one of the reasons that D'Agastino is out. The investors were upset that Krell products kept coming in at prices above what they perceive their competitions were.

Their products also seem to hold their value pretty well on the used market. It's been a while since I've scoped out Agon but I remember asking prices still being pretty high. And when I sold my old Krell integrated I got a good price for it, seemed like lots of demand for Krell gear on the used market.

I think you are way high on the list price of the 402.

Close to a 50% drop on the used market for most high end gear is about right, knowing what the markup is on many of these products.
