I see some of you are using a active X-over with the JL's.
Are you using it with speakers with passive Xovers in the cabinets or no X-over
at all in the speaker's cabinet(using active).
I see the manual recommends to use an outboard X-overwith the subs,BUT if
your speakers already have passive,then is it still necessary,if it is wouldn't
the speakersX-over interfere with the active X-over.

HMMM,i guess nobdy hear uses a X-over with their JL's.

I used to run an active x/o in the form of Bryston 10B sub model with Sonus Faber monitors and dual F112's. It was amazing! Splitting up the bass between the subs and the speakers increased coherence in the speakers and freed up some headroom for the amps. Win-win situation.

PHC-1,do the Sonus Faber's have passive X-overs in them.
I assume if they went down to 30,40 or whatever hz,
then you would probably use the bryston and bring her in @32,42 ect.

Or if they they went down to 32hz,perhaps an octave above(64hz).
Any thoughts on this,or do you highpass@70 or 80,snd lowpass at say 50 or 60,
thsnks.

I experimented with the subs simply augmenting the monitors with very good results. Adding an active x/o and using hi and lo pass to split the bass before the amps was the way to go though. The monitors had a passive crossover like most speakers out there... I experimented with the crossover Hz and slopes on both the Bryston x/o and the JL subs, it was a tweakers paradise... Once dialed in, it was simply stunning.

I'm running my 50a's full range,supposedly they will do 32hz at -3db.
I do like my 2XF-113,so I'm Y-jacked out of my pre to my 28s and the 113's.
Always trying to squeeze MORE out of her and if that takes a 10B-sub to do her,then we will,read great reviews on the 10B.

I do it too (active X/O) and it was a 100% difference, as I was about to send the tacked on subs sound to a new home.

Really? I always use the bass management/crossover in the pre/pro and bypass the JL's LP crossover.

I actually have two systems,one for movies using my prepro(bypassing the f-113's X-overs.
Then I have my BP-26 pre to my 28B's+ 2XF-113's,that's where I'm thinking an active X-over.
I use to use my prepro for music,but to my ears a dedicated pre is far superior.
Music and movies,love em both,hence two systems.
Probably the 10B subX-over will slip in there quite nicely.

Anyone can describe the overall sound of the JL?
Are voiced to match to an specific speakers like cones, or work with planars too?
