Kenreau.......I am not familiar with the Integra processor, but as a general rule when you select No subwoofer in the set up menu, plus select Large for your left and right front speakers, the processor will send all audio information, including LFE to the left and right front speakers. This will also provide the same full frequency audio output to the Dartzeel Aux outputs that you have connected the subwoofer allowing it to perform with music in two channel mode, and in By Pass for home theater use. You will not be missing any LFE information when in home theater mode because it will be fed to the front left and right speakers through the Dartzeel. I would optimize the subwoofer first using JL Audio's built in system, then adjust the subwoofer's gain control to satisfy the low frequency mix to your Harbeth's, and you should be good.

Hi all and Happy New Year. I am a new member to this site and wanted to pose a question the collective expertise of the members.

I am seriously looking at purchasing the new Magnepan 3.7's once they are released (I love the sound of the 3.6's and had a feeling that a revised version was on the horizon). I would power them with a Mac MC452. I will be using this with a Perfect Wave Dac/bridge streaming AIFF and Hi Rez Flac files. A preamp will not be used as I will use the digital volume control built into the Dac.

Based on what I have read on this site, it seems that for HT 2 subs make a huge improvement in SQ, whereas with 2 channel it is not as critical with several people removing a sub altogether as they feel that their full range speakers are more than adequate. I realize that the Maggies don't necessarily go as low as many of the speakers mentioned, thus a sub could be helpful with this particular speaker. The question is for 2 channel listening is one 112 or 113 enough or will two subs make a substantial improvement in SQ? The other question is, for these speakers is a 112 more than enough or will I benefit by going to the 113? My listening room is 16 x 21 with 12 foot ceilings.

Thanks for any and all replies.

I have Magnepan MGIII's, the precursor to the 3.6 and have 2 ,JLf112 subs. ie one for each maggie. I think most here will agree 2 JLF112 subs. are better than on JLF113 . I started with 1 JLF112 and thought it sounded very good but 2 is much better, better balanced and better imaging.

I am also a big believer of subs in pairs.

Pair of F113's - 2 Channel Room
Pair of Gothams - Home Theater

Thanks guys. So if I can afford it, go with 2 113''s over 2 112's as it would not be overkill.

One other question, the MC452 has balanced inputs and outputs, can I connect the subs from the outputs of the amp?

My room dimensions are close to yours. Started with one F112, then added a second F112 about a month later. Definitely prefer two subs. Have used both subs with at least five different pairs of speakers and the the overall sound quality was improved every time while using the subs.

MC452 is a new design with a floating ground. It is not chassis ground. If possible, your best bet would be to take your PWD into your Dealer and experiment with similar gear or call McIntosh.

Ran the MC452>MDA1000>MS750 with 2 F112's. Initially used a splitter off the MDA1000 to the amp and subs.

Removed the splitter then went direct from the MDA1000 to the MC452 and used the XLR outputs of the MC452 for the subs. Then the problem with HUM happened!. It was narrowed down to an S video cable connected to the MS750.

With the S video cable disconnected-No hum. Which left me without a display for the server. It was not a cable TV problem. The amp was being grounded through the subs attached to the amps XLR outputs.

You might also want to consider looking into a single F-212, this is one bad-ass sub

Klipschfan,

Was there a difference in SQ is using a splitter vs the 452's balanced outs (after eliminating the S-video cable)?

Were you able to solve the problem or did you have to go back to the splitter?

Did you contact McIntosh, if so what did they tell you? (I will be contacting them based on your post and asking them about using the balanced outs for the subs)

Did you run the F112's in a master/slave configuration or with direct connections to each sub? Does one way work better than the other?

Thanks for the information thus far.

Seeing how the PWD has both balanced and unbalanced outputs (and I believe both are active at all times) why not run the subs on the unbalanced and connect your amps via balanced? FWIW, I connect my PWD to my SSP-800 via balanced and my pair of f112s are run from the Classe via unbalanced cable runs as a stereo pair. No noise, no hum, all good!
